Who's the One Regretting Now? novel Chapter 86

Edward’s mood was foul all morning because of last night’s incident. Nathan had been searching everywherecitywide, statewide, even nationwidebut there was still no trace of Macie.

It had already been three days.

When are you going to find her? Can’t you work faster?Edward finally snapped at Nathan as the workday neared its end.

Nathan was at his wit’s end. He had exhausted all his resources and still couldn’t locate Macie. Mr. Fowler, maybe you should use your personal connections to track down her new phone number. I can’t access that kind of information. It’s a privacy issue.

Edward’s eyes lit up with realization. He immediately started reaching out to contacts in the telecommunications industry, trying to access the database. 1

But the telecom operators weren’t privately owned, and no matter how many connections Edward used, he couldn’t get through to the top level. After hours of fruitless effort, he slumped into his chair, defeated.

He didn’t know what else he could do or how else he could find Macie.

It was already 11:00 pm, and Edward was still at the office.

Suddenly, he remembered his grandfather. If anyone could get Macie’s new phone number from the telecom operators, it was him. Thus, Edward immediately dialed home.

The landline rang repeatedly, but no one picked up. Edward paced around his office like a caged animal, his anxiety growing with every passing second.

He called again and again, refusing to give up. Finally, after several minutes of relentless ringing, someone answered.

Mr. Fowler, why are you calling so late?Nolan asked.

I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to disturb Grandpa, but I need his help with something urgent,Edward said desperately.

Hearing the urgency in his tone, Nolan replied, Go ahead. I’ll relay the message to Mr. Fowler Senior first thing tomorrow.

Edward couldn’t wait until tomorrow, but before he could protest, he glanced at the wall clock. It was already 11:30 pm.

Fine. Make sure you tell him as soon as possible,Edward said.

He explained that Macie had left and that he hadn’t been able to contact her for three days. He was about to ask Yosef to help track down her new phone number when Nolan interrupted.

It seemed that Macie had sent the divorce papers to the Fowler residence. Edward refused to believe it. It’s fake! It’s a photocopy. Macie’s playing a prank on me. I can’t believe she’d go this far, even dragging Grandpa into it. Is she out of her mind?Edward roared.

He inwardly cursed, thinking that Macie was really pushing her luck. He couldn’t believe her audacity to scare Grandpa with a fake document.

Wouldn’t she realize Grandpa might believe it and kick her out of the Fowler family for good? Edward was furious, his anger boiling at Macie’s deception and the prank that had gone too far. “It’s not a photocopy. It’s the original, with your signature on it,Nolan explained. 2
