Chapter 74

Nathan observed Edward closely. He said, You don’t seem drunk at all. You still recognized me.

Edward had clearly meant to call Macie but had dialed Nathan instead.

He’s definitely drunk,Sharon insisted. Otherwise, would he sit on the roadside with no regard for his image?

Nathan glanced at her and immediately saw through her intentions. If she took Edward home, he would

be done for.

Stepping in firmly, Nathan stated, Mr. Fowler is perfectly sober. He has two international meetings this afternoon. He can’t afford to take the day off.

Sharon opened her mouth and was about to suggest postponing the meetings, but Nathan cut her off.

These are multibilliondollar deals. Are you willing to take responsibility for any delays? Can you

handle that?

Sharon fell silent.

Multibilliondollar deals? If Edward sobered up later and realized she had dragged him home instead,

she would be finished.

Left with no choice, she watched in frustration as Nathan took Edward away. She stomped her feet in

anger.

Meanwhile, outside an apartment complex, Macie had arrived home.

Alice followed her up, scanning the modest 800squarefoot space before sighing dramatically. This place is so small. My bathroom is bigger than this.

Please, Alice, try to endure it. This is where we ordinary folk live,Macie said smilingly.

It’s just me living here, so I don’t need much space. The location is good, and the management is decent,

so I bought it outright.

There are two bedrooms? I’m staying over tonight,” Alice announced as she looked around.

Macie chuckled at how quickly Alice had gone from complaining to settling in.

Macie wasn’t physically tired that day, but the emotional whiplash exhausted her. She couldn’t even eat in peace without running into Edward.

From now on, she would avoid anywhere within a tenmile radius of Fowler Group.

You missed the drama while you were off in Julian’s car. I was just telling you about the gossip this

morning,Alice said while lounging on the couch.

Macie continued unpacking her shopping bags, her face unreadable.

It was hilarious. I ran into Edward and his mistress in the restroom. I called him out for cheating, and get

thishe was literally holding her arm while denying it.

Macie’s expression didn’t change as she folded her new clothes.

Then he got drunk, stormed out like a lunatic, and even blocked my car. I have no idea what he was trying to do. Honestly, his wife must have the worst luck ever.

Macie blinked, speechless. It was a strange, almost surreal feeling to hear her best friend rant about her

without even realizing it.

Edward woke up from his nap at 3:00 pm in the CEO’s office at Fowler Group, his mind slightly groggy.

Finding himself in the office lounge, he frowned.

After stepping out, he requested coffee from Nathan.

Nathan entered and asked, Mr. Fowler, how are you feeling? Are you still dizzy? Do you need a hangover

remedy?

Edward frowned. Why would I need a hangover remedy?

Nathan hesitated before asking, “Did you black out? Do you not remember getting drunk at lunch and demanding to see Mrs. Fowler?

Edward had just taken a sip of coffee and immediately choked, sputtering as his face darkened. A faint

redness crept up his ears.

As he tried to recall, he realized he couldn’t remember much. Panicked, he grabbed his phone and saw

that he had made dozens of calls to Macie.

Yet, not a single one was answered.

A conflicting mix of emotions surged inside him. On one hand, he thought that it was good that she hadn’t picked up. If she had, she would have witnessed his humiliating state. That would have been utterly shameful.

But at the same time, he was inexplicably furious. Macie really had blocked him and hadn’t answered

even once.
