As Macie listened to Julian speak, she felt genuinely happy for him. His long–time dream had finally

come true.

“Speaking of which, I have to thank Macie. She was the one who secured a ten–million–dollar angel investment back then,” Julian said, looking at her.

“May, that’s amazing! Why didn’t you ever mention it?” Alice exclaimed in surprise.

“It’s because she left to go abroad right after securing the investor. I was deeply touched and even wanted to make her a shareholder, but she disappeared so suddenly.” Julian sighed.

Macie’s mind drifted back to two years ago when she heard this. At that time, she had planned to start a business with Julian. But then fate had dangled another opportunity in front of her–one she had foolishly taken. She had abandoned her career for love, only to become a caged housekeeper.

“Angel investment? May, how did you end up as a shareholder? Do you get dividends, too?” Alice asked, catching onto the crucial detail.

“Later, the angel investment turned into a personal investment. Macie and I split the dividends 50-50,” Julian explained.

“Whoa! So you found a filthy rich investor?” Alice was amazed.

“It was Mr. Fowler Senior,” Julian answered. “Given his status, ten million dollars was nothing more than a casual private investment.”

At the mention of “Fowler“, Macie’s instincts went on high alert. She subtly observed Alice and Julian, worried that they might start piecing things together.

“May, when did you become so close to Mr. Fowler Senior?” Alice asked.

Macie forced a smile. Just about to come up with an excuse, Julian explained, “Back then, I was leading a competition team, and Macie was my vice–captain. Mr. Fowler Senior was one of the judges.”

“That’s right. We crossed paths a couple of times, and when he evaluated Julian’s startup, he saw great potential and decided to invest,” Macie added.

“But why didn’t he just go through the angel investment process? Why make it a personal investment and split profits with you?” Alice questioned.

Macie pursed her lips slightly. The truth was that Yosef had initially intended to give her the entire share, but she had refused and insisted on a 50-50 split.

“Why aren’t you answering? Don’t tell me that you have some deeper connection to the Fowlers…” Alice narrowed her eyes, pausing mid–sentence.

Macie instantly tensed, her body stiffening as she watched Alice closely.

“Are you secretly his long–lost granddaughter? That would explain why he was so generous,” Alice

speculated.

Macie let out a quiet sigh. She was relieved that Alice hadn’t said “granddaughter–in–law” instead.

“No. It’s nothing like that. He’s just a kind and generous man. Angel investments go through company accounts, while personal investments are handled privately and processed faster,” Macie explained.”

And like Julian said, ten million is pocket change for someone with his status.”

Alice found this explanation reasonable. Moreover, Julian and Macie’s team had been exceptional back

then. Whenever they competed, they almost always won first place.

As they chatted, Macie suddenly heard the waiter’s voice near the entrance.

“Sir, do you have a reservation?”

A deep male voice responded. The sound was so familiar that it sent a shiver down Macie’s spine, her

body instinctively trembling.

She thought that the world was too small and that Kiyora was even smaller. It wasn’t enough that she

had already heard about Edward’s latest scandal in the morning. Now, she had to run into him at the

same restaurant at noon.

Macie refused to let him spot her there.
