That night, as usual, Edward left work and went straight to accompany Sharon before returning home. Another day passed without him seeing Macie.

He had attended a social gathering that evening and had a few drinks. Feeling discomfort in his stomach, he sat at the dining table, and a sudden image of Macie bringing him a bowl of hot soup flashed through his mind.

She would always remind him to be careful and fuss over him like a nagging mother. If he scolded her, she would obediently stand aside, saying nothing.

But as he came back to reality, the large house felt empty. There was no one else around.

Edward frowned, realizing that he had been thinking about Macie a lot these past two days, which

annoyed him.

He got up to take some medicine and pour himself a glass of water, but something seemed missing.

After a moment, he realized that Macie’s mug was gone.

He didn’t dwell on it as it was just a cup. But when he went to the balcony to collect the laundry, he noticed that her bath and face towels were also missing.

“Macie came back?” he muttered to himself, frowning. Then his expression darkened.

“She even took her things. It looks like she’s fully recovered. Yet, she still hasn’t come to apologize and beg for forgiveness. What, does she expect me to go looking for her? Unbelievable.”

Scoffing, Edward returned to the master bedroom to wash up and sleep.

Meanwhile, in a different neighborhood, Macie lay in bed, using her new phone to log into her social

accounts and reply to messages from her senior, Julian, and her friend, Alice Hart.

Earlier that day, Macie was putting on the act of returning to the country, turning down Julian’s offer to pick her up and arrange her accommodation.

In fact, the shares she had received over the past two years had given her enough dividends to purchase

this small apartment outright. It was more than sufficient for her to live on her own.

Alice scolded Macie for being heartless, as the latter had disappeared completely for two years after leaving the country. It had taken Macie a great deal of effort to coax Alice back into a conversation.

Julian had texted, “Get some rest first. There’s no rush to start work. I’ve already made the arrangements.‘

Macie agreed. She planned to start her job in three days. She still needed to buy work attire. After all, she was starting her professional life now. It was her first night of being truly free, and as she took a deep breath, she slept soundly.

Meanwhile, Edward had just brought Sharon home. She originally planned to stay in the hospital for another two days, thinking that it was a great opportunity for her to deepen her bond with him.

But when she went to find Macie at noon, intending to see how long the latter would keep clinging on past the three–day deadline, she was told that Macie had already been discharged early that morning.

Back at home, Sharon opened the door to the guest room. As expected, all of Macie’s belongings were gone. The only things left were a divorce agreement and an unopened brand–new phone. She smirked in

satisfaction.

More importantly, the nine–million–dollar necklace Edward had bought for Macie was still sitting on the living room table. After a glance, she confirmed that it hadn’t been swapped. The necklace was authentic.

“Edward, it must’ve been tiring for you to pick me up after work. I could’ve come back on my own,”

Sharon said in the living room while looking at him.

“It’s my duty to pick you up. After all, you were hospitalized because of Macie,” Edward replied.

“It’s fine. I understand how women can get jealous. Honestly, I envy May for being able to marry you,”

Sharone said, giving him a playful wink.

Edward pressed his lips together at her words, saying nothing. He simply placed her belongings in her room. When he returned, he saw her holding a small ornate box.

“This was your gift to Macie. It’s so valuable. No matter how angry she is, she shouldn’t have thrown it away. I’ll put it back in her room for her,” she said.

Edward looked at the box and immediately thought of Macie’s cold expression, her outburst, and the man

he still hadn’t identified. Macie hadn’t even tried to come back and apologize. Anger started to rise

within him.

“If she doesn’t want it, why give it back?” he coldly questioned. “Keep it. Consider it compensation for the

gas leak incident. You suffered a lot for the past few days.”
