“I’m seeing a side of her I never knew. She’s vicious!” Edward stated.

Hearing his furious rant, Sharon, who was sitting beside him with her head lowered, let a small smile flicker across her lips before quickly suppressing it.

Although Edward had taken the whole day off, he returned to work by noon.

Sharon remained at the hospital. Although she had regained consciousness, she still felt a little dizzy. Having hospital staff take care of her reassured Edward.

Because of this incident, Edward was enveloped in a dark, brooding mood.

Macie, driven by jealousy toward Sharon, had gone insane. She had caused a gas leak that could have killed all of them, even himself. She was nothing short of a terrorist!

Nathan quickly noticed his boss‘ foul mood. Within an hour that afternoon, Edward had already lost his temper three times. Bracing himself, Nathan asked about it while retrieving some documents.

While subordinates weren’t supposed to pry into their boss‘ personal matters, knowing what had enraged

Edward might help Nathan avoid further missteps.

Edward hadn’t intended to say anything at first. But when he remembered that Macie had a good relationship with Nathan, he decided to tell the latter.

“Do you see that? She’s a venomous woman–a sociopath! She should be locked away in a mental institution!” Edward gritted his teeth in anger.

Nathan was momentarily stunned, then instinctively asked, “Are you saying that Mrs. Fowler caused the gas poisoning that affected Ms. Emerson? But Ms. Emerson turned out fine. You also seem unharmed, sir.”

“I was in the bedroom, and the door helped block some of the gas. Plus, I left in time,” Edward replied

blankly.

“In that case, why wasn’t Ms. Emerson severely affected? She was still able to walk out and call for help,”

Nathan continued.

“She slept in the living room…” Edward started, but then he suddenly froze.

He thought that Nathan was right. Shouldn’t Sharon, who had slept in the living room, have inhaled even more gas than Macie? Why wasn’t she seriously affected?

“…Macie must have done it on purpose. She deliberately went closer to the kitchen gas, opened the windows, turned off the stove, and erased all evidence,” Edward insisted through clenched teeth.

There could be no other explanation. Macie was capable of scalding her own foot just to manipulate others. What else wouldn’t she do?

She had even collapsed right by the door. If she had truly lost consciousness, how could it have been such a coincidence? She would have passed out much earlier inside the apartment.

The more Edward thought about it, the more convinced he became, and his anger intensified.

Nathan wanted to say something but ultimately sighed and kept quiet.

Edward seemed to have completely misunderstood Macie. From what Nathan had seen, he thought that Macie was kind–hearted. He simply couldn’t believe that she would intentionally do something like this.

After work, Edward took some broth to the hospital for Sharon. He stayed with her, chatting while she ate. The entire time, he never once visited Macie’s hospital room. (1)

He had already paid her medical bills and hospitalization fees. He thought that that was more than enough. After all, that wicked woman had tried to kill both him and Sharon.

Macie regained consciousness the next morning. It wasn’t until the nurse came to check on her and run some tests that she realized an entire day had passed.

“Your husband came to the hospital but not to see you. That woman downstairs was well enough to be discharged yesterday, but she’s still staying, claiming that she feels dizzy,” the nurse muttered, unable to hold back her disdain.

She had heard that Macie was the legitimate wife, yet her husband only cared about his mistress, leaving her home alone to almost die from gas poisoning.

Macie remained impassive and calm as she lay in the hospital bed.

Naturally, she knew exactly who “that woman” was.

Macie had been the one who ended up in this miserable state, yet those two were still as intimate as ever.

Even when she was on the brink of death, it wasn’t Edward who had called the ambulance–it was the neighbors.

So she hadn’t died after all.

Macie fugured that Edward and Sharon must be disappointed.
