Nathan deduced that Edward cared about Macie a lot. Yet, he couldn’t understand why Edward was fooling around with another woman, to the point of bringing his mistress back to his home.
Nathan ordered the meals for Macie. However, he was savvy enough to tell her that the order was placed by the Fowler family and not Edward.
He worried that Macie might just flush the food down the toilet if she knew who it was really from.
At the hospital, Macie ate those meals. She figured that it was most likely Yosef’s idea since they were from the Fowler family.
However, Macie furrowed her brows. Slice wondered if Edward had told Yosef that she had been admitted to the hospital.
Strangely, she did not receive any new messages from Yosef Macie did not send him any messages either since she would probably have to share details about her injuries.
Macie spent her days leisurely. During the day, she watched tutorial videos or worked on her sketches. She had enough practice to ensure that she could quickly adapt to her new job.
She was also
in a good mood since she did not have to see Edward. Coupled with the help of the nutritious meals, she looked much more radiant than before.
Looking at the countdown displayed on her phone, she thought about how the day she could finally leave Edward was drawing closer. Macie’s heart was filled with the hope she had for her new life.
She started packing her things in the morning of the day she was getting discharged. When she carried her bag and turned around, Macie spotted someone standing by the door and staring intently at her.
She was momentarily startled but quickly regained composure, her face blank and silent.
She had no idea why Edward had suddenly shown up at the hospital and even stood by the door with that frightening look on his face.
“Mrs. Fowler, let me help you with that.” Nathan hurried into the room and took Macie’s bag from her.
“No. I can do it…” Macie rejected his offer to help.
“I’m here to help with these tasks today. You don’t have to be so courteous with me, Mrs. Fowler.” Nathan smiled slightly.
Yet, his pride would not allow him to share his honest thoughts. He turned around in agitation and spat, “You’d better be!”
Somewhere further away, Nathan discretely opened a drawer. As expected, a phone was left inside the drawer. Nathan took the phone and put it into the bag.
They got to the parking lot soon enough. Nathan was driving that day. Macie was planning on sitting in the front passenger seat. However, Nathan swiftly put Macie’s bag on the seat.
He reckoned that Edward would probably rip the car apart that day if Macie were to sit in the front passenger seat.
“Mrs. Fowler, I’ve unlocked the rear doors.” Nathan reminded her with a smile on his face. Inwardly, he was feeling anxious.
Macie turned slightly and got into the backseat. Meanwhile, Edward got in from the other side of the car, Just as he was about to start the engine, the notification ringtone of Nathan’s phone went off. Nathan glanced at it and found that it was a message from Edward.
It read, “You need to maintain a professional attitude during work. Stop smiling so much.”
Nathan was rendered speechless. He couldn’t understand the reason for such an absurd demand. He questioned when he had even smiled. Even if he did, it was only with Macie. He ultimately concluded that men could indeed get really jealous.
Nathan remained silent. He had a blank look in his eyes. Another message popped up on the screen. It was still from Edward.
