"What is it this time? Didn’t I just talk to you a few days ago? You can’t keep arguing with him.

“A gentler approach works better with men. If you keep throwing tantrums, you’re only pushing him away—don’t you get that?"

Ruby was petty and overly emotional.

Her mother’s reminder managed to cool her down a little.

That evening, Eugene stayed for dinner at the Matthews estate, where they went over the details for the engagement.

After sulking all afternoon, Ruby immediately brightened up. "There’s a Bentley I’ve been eyeing. It’s around eight hundred thousand dollars. Let’s go for a test drive tomorrow."

The moment she spoke, both Theodore and Peter looked over.

"Eugene, what are you looking at?" Ruby noticed his distracted state and asked with concern.

"Nothing. I should get going. I need to talk to my parents about the engagement," he said, avoiding the real reason entirely.

"Right, makes sense. Drive safe."

After Eugene left, the Matthews family quickly convened for another family discussion.

Ruby started, "Mom, since the engagement party is this Saturday, shouldn’t we ask Adora to stay away for the time being?

“Otherwise, how are the guests supposed to feel comfortable coming here?"

She had dreamed of kicking Adora out of the house.

Lilian frowned. "That depends on whether she’s even willing to stay away."

Theodore suddenly asked, "She never came back after going to the station this morning?"

"She came home around noon," Lilian replied. "Mary said she grabbed her car keys from her room and left again."

Peter looked puzzled. "She’s out every day. What is she even up to? You don’t think she’s really involved in something shady, do you?"
