When I Flash-Married a Billionaire, My Ex Went on a Hunger Strike novel Chapter 54

Adora arrived at the station and was brought in to see the two traffickers.

After carefully going over her memories, she shook her head.

"Officer Watson, they’re not the ones who trafficked me," she said, clearly disappointed.

Michael nodded, then added, "According to their statement, though, some of the people they trafficked were sent to Millbrook Town."

Millbrook Town was the rural area where Adora was held for three years.

"Maybe... there’s some sort of connection between these trafficking rings," she guessed.

"That’s likely. They often share information and trade victims between groups," Michael confirmed, then asked, "Do you still remember what the others looked like?"

Adora paused for a moment. "Bits and pieces..."

She’d always been sharp—a known prodigy back in school, with an exceptional memory.

During those three years in captivity, treated no better than an animal, she had used bits of straw to sketch their faces into the dirt again and again—desperate to cling to every detail she could remember.

Michael was both surprised and encouraged.

He immediately called over a colleague. "Take Miss Matthews to the sketch artist and get a full statement."

Adora stayed at the station for the better part of the day.

She not only gave a detailed account of the abduction and trafficking but also worked closely with the sketch artist to recreate the faces of the traffickers from memory.

When the portraits were done, Michael showed them to the two men in custody.

One of them recognized a face right away.

"That’s Hector Smith. I worked with him last year," the man said, eager to cooperate in hopes of a lighter sentence.

But when pressed for more details, he shook his head, claiming he didn’t know anything else.

Still, it was a lead which finally gave them a direction to go on.

Michael was genuinely grateful.

After taking down her contact details, he personally walked Adora out.

When she got home, only Lilian was upstairs; the rest of the family had gone out.

Adora went back to her room to check on the little pet she’d brought home yesterday—it seemed to be doing fine.

She covered the cage again with a cloth, grabbed her car keys, and headed out.

After all, she’d once been the most sought-after socialite in Capital City.

Her standard of living wasn’t something that could be dialed down easily.

Even a single outfit or handbag could cost thousands.

Now that she had no income and the Matthews family had cut her off, she wouldn’t last long with just two hundred thousand dollars.

"I don’t care. You’d better make sure she pays you back soon! We need that money for our wedding, and you threw it around like it’s nothing."

"Ruby… look at her situation. She doesn’t have anything now. Can’t we just let it go? It’s only two hundred thousand..."

"Only two hundred thousand?" Ruby’s temper flared.

She spun to face him, eyes blazing. "Eugene Turner, just admit it that you’re still in love with her. You won’t even deny it! If you love her that much, go marry her instead!"

With that, she unbuckled, flung the car door open, and stormed out.

"Ruby! Ruby!" Eugene called after her, but she didn’t stop.

He had no choice but to drive after her, tailing her all the way back to the Matthews estate.
