Ruby muttered under her breath, "She’s probably up to no good. The minute she saw Eugene, she asked him for two hundred thousand dollars… who knows what for."

No one responded.

With the police digging into the trafficking case from years ago, Ruby felt like she was sitting on a ticking time bomb.

Growing increasingly anxious, she spoke up again.

"Dad, Mom, maybe we should ask her to move out for a while. Just until the engagement party is over. We can have her come back after that."

She quickly added, all smiles, "If you’re worried about her living alone, I can stop by every day. Bring her some food and check on her."

Lilian looked surprised. "You’d do that?"

"She’s my sister. Isn’t that what I should do? Eugene even told me today to be more understanding.

“Imagine how hurt she must feel if even her own family shuts her out."

As she spoke, Ruby’s voice grew soft and emotional, eyes glistening as if she were holding back tears.

Peter let out a sigh. "I feel for her too. But it’s hard to talk to her these days. She’s changed."

"Let’s settle it then," Ruby said, standing up.

"I’ll help pack her things. Once she gets back, I’ll drive her to the rental myself."

Forcing down the discomfort in her chest, she walked toward the spare room on the first floor.

Lilian turned to her. "Ruby, are you just going in like that?"

"Mom, HIV doesn’t spread through the air. You’ve got to stop treating her like she’s some kind of threat."

Her sudden show of empathy, her willingness to accept and care for her older sister, deeply moved both Lilian and Theodore.

"Eugene’s really had a positive influence on Ruby," Lilian murmured.

"I just hope Adora can understand where we’re coming from too."

"Maybe it’s a jewelry box?" she guessed, stepping over for a closer look.

Thinking about how Adora had asked Eugene for two hundred thousand dollars, Ruby was convinced she’d blown it all on luxury goods.

Without hesitation, she lifted the cloth.
