Adora laughed. "What, are you really intending to provide for me now?"
Eugene ignored the sarcasm in her voice and spoke softly, "If you’re short on money, just tell me. I’ll give you whatever you need."
Adora couldn’t help thinking that this scumbag was surprisingly generous until he spoke again.
"But don’t go doing that kind of thing, alright? You're still the Matthews family’s heiress. If someone recognizes you, it’d be humiliating—for you, and for us.
“People would laugh. And with your condition… it’s contagious. If someone finds out and calls the police, it’s a crime…"
Rage surged up her spine like wildfire.
If Eugene had been standing in front of her, she would’ve clawed his mouth to shreds.
She was so furious her brain short-circuited, crammed with a thousand curse words, all fighting to come out at once only to clog her throat completely.
But her reason kicked in quickly.
She took a deep breath, reminded herself that arguing with an idiot was beneath her, and forced herself to calm down.
Then she smiled.
"Sure," she said sweetly. "Send me two hundred thousand dollars then."
"Alright, how should I get it to you?" Eugene agreed without hesitation.
Adora blinked, caught off guard by how easily he complied. "This number is linked to my messenger. Add me and I’ll send you my account info."
"Okay. But promise me you’ll take care of yourself. Don’t throw your life away."
"I will. I’ll be good," she said with a sweet smile, then ended the call.
Her molars were grinding from the sheer anger she was holding back. She took another deep breath, muttering inwardly that she wouldn’t get mad, not when there was money on the table.
As she turned back, her phone dinged.
She checked it.
As expected, Eugene had sent a friend request.
Adora didn’t hesitate for a second before hitting accept.
As soon as Adora returned, the agent rushed over with a polite smile. "Miss Matthews, Mr. Walker’s in a bit of a hurry. Could you go ahead and process the final payment?"
"Sure." Adora nodded, pulling out her phone to log into her mobile banking app.
"What?" She blinked, then immediately understood the misunderstanding.
She couldn’t be bothered to explain.
Her first thought was, “Wow, like nephew, like uncle. That condescending attitude must run in the family.”
"Mr. Walker, you really are sharp. What, you disapprove? Your nephew seems pretty eager to please."
Just then, her phone chimed—a notification from the bank confirming the funds had been received.
Eugene actually transferred two hundred thousand dollars.
Adora arched a brow, her features lighting up with delight.
She held her phone out, waving the screen in front of Louis.
"See? Your nephew sent it over himself."
Right in front of Louis, she opened her messenger app, her voice soft and laced with sweetness as she typed:
"Thank you, Eugene. In this whole world, you're the only one still willing to treat me kindly. I could die happy now."
