Chapter 262-2
“What the bloody hell?” said, as I stumbled back, before taking in their appearance. It honestly looked as if they had been in a damn fight, as the clothes on their backs looked tattered and stained with blood, making me now wonder what the heil had happened to them.
It wasn’t until Mazie turned her back on me, did I even notice my cousin Jasper’s ass standing off to the side behind them in his football uniform, making me instantly realize that today was Friday, and the day of our big game against his school. But none of that even mattered to me, when my eyes landed on Raven’s limp body in his arms.
For the first time in hours, the room went silent, as Chance pushed past me, heading straight for our mate in our cousin’s arms, as he finally broke the silence by asking, “What the hell happened to frer?”
“Bring her to the bed.” Lexi ordered Chance, as she pulled her bloodstain hoodie off, throwing it onto the floor, while she yelled out to Mazie to grab clean towels from the bathroom.
As Chance laid Raven’s body on the bed, I finally moved my feet to stand at the foot of it, and that was when I noticed the gash on her leg that looked as if she had been clawed. Between the blood that was still gushing from the wound and the dried blood that had been running down her leg, her wound looked pretty serious. A low growl now not only rumbled from my own chest, but from my brothers too, as the three of us took in our mate’s current state.
“Who did this to her?” I asked through gritted teeth, but neither Mazie nor Lexi answered my question, making me turn to look at my cousin for answers. But as I turned, I realized that Jasper was already staring at me like he had seen a ghost.
“Jasper, what the hell happened to Raven?” Cash now asks him, stepping partially in front of me, but Jasper’s eyes remained on me, even when he finally said, “She was attacked by someone portraying to be Chase.”
“What?” I confusedly asked, as I took a step back, hitting the foot of the bed with the back of my legs, stopping me from going any further, as I tried to understand exactly what my cousin was saying. My brothers had been here in this room the whole time with me, leaving me to wonder who on earth could have portrayed themselves to be me.
Thankfully, Jasper didn’t leave us wondering for long before he said straight to me, “I honestly thought it was you. His face, voice, scent, hell, everything to the damn tea looked like you. But I should have known something was off when you allowed that damn bitch of a cheerleader to act that way towards your mate. After the rogues attacked, and I realized that your mate wasn’t on the field, I went looking for her, thinking that something was really off, especially when you didn’t play your damn little locker room pranks on me at halftime.”
“Wait, you said the rogues attacked?” My father now said, pushing past Cash and me both, drawing Jasper’s attention away from telling us what the hell went down with this so–called doppelgänger of mine. “Yes, uncle. A huge group of rogues attacked during the halftime.” Jasper began to explain to my father, as my mind drifted away from what he was saying, because it was stuck on the whole concept that someone had been at the game portraying to be me.
If any of us, why wouldn’t this individual want to portray to be Chance, instead of me, since he was the firstborn son? But then it hit me, Chance would normally not make it to any of the football games, since he
was always stuck at home working on the ranch, while I was off practicing and at my games.
-We have to get back to Beaumont. The Alpha rogues must have got wind that our territory is unprotected. Even with Jasper’s father and most of his pack being there, they would clearly be outnumbered.” My father frantically said, drawing my attention back to the urgency of the moment, knowing that the whole damn town was probably under attack in all our absence.
“And why the hell was this game not postponed?” My uncle asked, as he now pushes his way past me, getting right up into my father’s face, before he continued to say, “Oh, that’s right, we both know who was in charge of canceling that. Can you not see my brother, that she is behind all of this? Everything that happened all those years ago is happening again. This time though, need to know, are you willing to do what is necessary to stop it, before more lives are lost, or worst yet, our boys lose their mate like we lost ours?”
“Our boys?” I whispered under my breath, while I now turned to look at Cash, and then at Chance, wondering if I heard our uncle right, as I felt like another bombshell had been dropped on us all.
