Chapter 541

Noelle sent another message: “We haven’t had dinner together in a long time. Are you free tonight? My appetite hasn’t been great lately, and I’ve been craving something sour. Do you remember that pickled fish

restaurant you recommended last time? I want to go there tonight. Can you come with me?”

Noelle used her signature sweet, coaxing tone to share these cozy, everyday thoughts with Finnian.

Finnian stared at the screen, utterly expressionless, then set the phone facedown on his desk.

He was in his office, gazing out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the city lights slowly flickering to life.

A corner of his heart felt completely hollow. Right now, Kaia was deep in negotiations with the Cytogene team. As Finnian looked at the sprawling city, a suffocating wave of emotion washed over him at the thought of Kaia being so far away in another city.

He turned around, grabbed his car keys, and drove straight to the Veridian apartment building.

When he arrived, he brought some fruit, along with toys and Brynlee’s

favorite snacks.

Layla had already prepared a table full of food. Jane and Warren Chavez had officially moved in. At that moment, Warren was trying to teach Brynlee math. The old professor had taught for over thirty years but had never encountered such a lackadaisical student.

“Brynlee, count them again. Seriously this time,” Warren reminded his granddaughter with infinite patience.

“I did count them seriously! There are nineteen.”

“Isn’t that one missing? Because you ate it,” Warren said, caught between

Brynlee rested her little chin on her hands and giggled. “Because I ate it! Look at this apple, it’s so big and red. It’s so yummy! Nom, nom, nom, I want to eat it all in one bite.”

Warren froze, rubbing his temples with one hand and pressing the other against his chest.

What was going on? Both of her parents were academic geniuses. How did this kid end up…*

‘Grandpa, what’s wrong?” Brynlee blinked her big, dark eyes and waved her little hand in front of Warren’s face. “Grandpa’s eyes aren’t moving! Grandma, come look, Grandpa’s eyes stopped moving.”

Jane came out carrying a dish of food and laughed at the scene.

‘Brynlee, spare your grandpa. If you keep teasing him, he’s going to fall apart.”

Warren sighed and stood up. “It seems I’m not cut out to teach young <ids. Maybe we should leave this impossible task to her dad.”

Jane chuckled. “Makes sense. He should be the one to teach her.”

My dad said the exact same thing last time he taught me. He said to let Mom teach me,” Brynlee said mischievously. “When Mom teaches me, I ust want to sleep. Mom is a little scary.”

Just then, the doorbell rang. Jane went to open it and saw Finnian standing outside.

‘Mom…”
