Chapter 545
He never in his wildest dreams imagined Noelle would choose now, of all times, to get pregnant.
If she had gotten pregnant after remarrying, he wouldn’t have batted an eye. But she was finally free, yet she tied herself down with this massive burden. She was just asking for trouble.
If she didn’t have this baby, she would have endless options. Now? He didn’t believe any man would willingly marry a woman carrying another
man’s child.
Even he couldn’t accept it.
“What are you looking at?” Noelle generously showed off her baby bump.
“Over four months.”
Julian muttered an “oh” and pulled out his chair to sit. Frowning deeply, he asked, “Why?”
“Why what?” Noelle smiled, maintaining her usual sweet, gentle demeanor.
“Why keep this baby? Don’t you know this kid is going to stop you from starting a new life?” Julian asked, clearly frustrated.
“Julian, I owe Rafael a child. I hope whoever takes responsibility for the rest of my life will be able to accept me having this baby,” Noelle said with complete, unapologetic confidence.
“Don’t overestimate men,” Julian said bluntly.
“Then I just won’t get married.” Noelle’s next sentence made Julian’s face freeze entirely.
His fingers tightened around his glass, stiffening for a long moment.
Noelle, looking completely unfazed, asked, “Julian, do you know what Finnian has been busy with lately?”
Chapter 545
Julian’s already dark expression turned completely grim. “We haven’t been in touch much recently.”
“Why?” Noelle-asked in surprise.
“We had a falling out,” Julian admitted honestly.
“Why? Over what?” Noelle genuinely didn’t know. All her time and energy lately had been focused on Finnian.
“Over you.” Julian looked up, staring right at her. “First, he wanted us to date. Then, because you got pregnant, he told us we could only be friends. I thought he was being totally hypocritical, so I punched him. We haven’t really talked since.”
“You hit him?!” Noelle’s face changed drastically. She snapped, “Julian, how could you hit him over me? Is he hurt?”
“Noelle, listen to yourself. He’s your brother-in-law, your late husband’s brother. Is it really appropriate for you to care about him this much?” Julian’s voice was sharp and direct, instantly stripping away any cover Noelle had for her hidden feelings. The color drained from her face.
Noelle bit her lip, lowering her head. After a long pause, she murmured, “It’s not like you just found out I like him. What’s the big deal?”
