"Old friend, take a look at this."
Jordan pulled out a narrow, rectangular box and opened it.
"Ghost-Needle! How does something like this still exist? Where did you get it?"
Clarence's eyes went wide with shock.
"Hasn't this technique been lost for years?"
"To be completely honest, someone used this to attack my apprentice at the airport yesterday."
Jordan furrowed his brow.
"Which airport?"
"Aethelgard Airport."
"I think I know who your apprentice is now. Did he just get back from the Javenaire Federation?"
Jordan nodded. Since he was asking for help, he had to provide accurate information.
"Your apprentice is Owen Lance, isn't he?"
"He is."
"He's built like a tank and highly skilled in martial arts. Plus, he had two elite bodyguards with him. It wouldn't have been an easy hit."
"The assassin failed."
Jordan nodded.
"Still, your people are getting sharper. You even have eyes at the airport."
"In modern society, you'll starve if you don't stay sharp. Look at you, waltzing back in to steal my business."
"But I have to admit, that apprentice of yours is impressive. Word is they made an absolute killing in the Javenaire Federation. Did he cut you a massive check?"
"You've extended your reach all the way to the Javenaire Federation?"
Jordan fired back instead of answering.
"I learned from the best, didn't I? How can you survive if you don't expand your territory?"
Clarence shot Jordan a sideways glance.
"I also heard that the girlfriend your apprentice found is incredibly formidable."
"Mira Mercer is my apprentice too."
However, neither of them operated on the same scale.
Jordan wanted to enlist their help, but he was also testing the waters, analyzing their expressions and body language to determine if the assassin had been dispatched from their ranks.
Ultimately, Jordan left disappointed. Based on his observations, the person wielding the Ghost-Needle had not been acting on orders from any local Aethelgard faction.
The next day, Jordan returned home and briefed Owen and Mira. "I can basically confirm that the assassin with the Ghost-Needle wasn't acting on local orders."
"While you were overseas, did you have any run-ins with anyone? Any bad blood?"
The two of them gave a detailed recount of the incident involving Jude Vance, as well as their encounter with Miven and Mishka in the Javenaire Federation.
Although Jude had already made peace with them back in the Javenaire Federation, it was impossible to truly know a person's heart. What if he was plotting in secret? It was better to be cautious.
"I don't know if Lawrence Lance colluded with Mishka, but my gut tells me she's definitely involved in this."
Mira said.
Mishka had lost a staggering amount of money in the Javenaire Federation, while Mira's group had walked away with astronomical profits. On top of that, Hank Whitlock, the man Mishka desired, had spent all his time trailing after Mira's crew.
When a woman was consumed by jealousy, there was no telling what she might do.
"You guys raked in trillions of dollars over there, which definitely disrupted the interests of certain financial syndicates. Could they have made a move against you?"
