"Relax. If I were that easy to take down, do you really think I'd still be alive today?"
Hank said with a laugh.
"Once this is over, I'm heading straight back to Mavaria. They won't dare pull their stunts on our home turf."
"True. There's no place safer."
...
The next day, as Mira's team left the hotel, they bumped into Jude Vance. "Can we talk?"
he asked, directing the question to Owen and Mira.
"We have nothing to discuss,"
Owen replied, not breaking his stride.
"You're here for securities trading, right?"
"Guess whatever you want."
"Listen, we could work together.
In business, there are no permanent enemies and no permanent friends. If we pool our resources, we'd be unstoppable."
Owen was about to shoot him down when Mira interjected, "Do you honestly think there's any universe where we'd collaborate with Lawrence?"
Mira had laid out the terms; the choice was now Jude's.
With that, the two continued toward their vehicles.
"Aren't you afraid I'll leak your whereabouts back home?"
"Do what you want."
Watching their cars pull away, Jude stood lost in thought.
Lawrence glared at the departing convoy, his voice dripping with venom. "She's just trying to drive a wedge between us."
"Is there really no way you can make peace with them?"
Jude asked.
"I'd rather die!"
Lawrence ground his teeth.
"So, do we leak their location?"
"What's the point? They haven't broken any laws, and it would just make us look petty again.
Lawrence wanted to clarify that Hank wasn't their main target, but Jude smoothly cut him off. "Okay."
With a mutual understanding, both parties abandoned their pursuit of Mira's team and headed back into the hotel...
Meanwhile, Mira and her team had already entered the New York Stock Exchange, intensely monitoring the day's market trends.
Atlantic National Bank stock had opened with another ferocious rally. Mira, who had fully intended to enter the market today, held her ground, refusing to pull the trigger.
Under these conditions, rushing in meant risking a total margin call if she wasn't careful.
Mira assessed the situation; yesterday's massive surge had likely drawn in a swarm of retail investors hoping for a quick payout.
Harvey Rivers and Ethan Mercer knew Mira's capabilities and followed her lead without question. Wesley Langdon, however, couldn't stop grumbling. "If we had gone in yesterday, we'd be sitting on a mountain of cash right now."
Lucian 'The Ink' North shot him down instantly. "If you're that miserable, go open your own account with your own money. I guarantee no one will stop you."
Back in Melvion City, Lucian had suffered a crushing defeat at Mira's hands, and the memory still sent shivers down his spine.
Now, as her subordinate, he was fiercely loyal.
Wesley snapped his mouth shut.
Just before the morning session closed, Atlantic National's rally finally stalled, leveling out into a flatline. It had likely hit its absolute peak.
