Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 816

Ethan arrived bright and early the next morning. After checking into his hotel, he came straight to Mira's place.

He wore his hair parted to the side as usual, his tall and commanding figure clad in a familiar gray cashmere base layer, a black woolen coat, and dark knee-high boots.

The only difference was the slightly heavier weight of maturity and exhaustion in his gaze.

Seeing Ethan again brought up a mess of complicated feelings for Mira, but the scars from her past life were still too deep. She couldn't fully acknowledge him as family yet.

Treating him as a friend was the absolute furthest she could compromise.

He arrived right at breakfast time, bringing only two people with him: a bodyguard and his female assistant.

Mira gave him a nod. "You made it. Sit down and eat."

Ethan and his team didn't stand on ceremony. The bodyguard sat with Mira's security team, while Ethan and his assistant joined Mira's table.

In truth, Ethan no longer harbored any extravagant hopes of Mira openly calling him her brother. Just being allowed in her presence was enough to satisfy him now.

Owen and Ethan exchanged a polite, silent nod in greeting.

"Mr. Ethan is here!"

Rachel hurried to the kitchen and brought out two extra sets of silverware. She was thrilled to see her former employer.

"Just call me Ethan now," he said.

He was running his own life now; he wasn't some sheltered young master anymore.

"Ethan! Is that you?"

Eleanor stood up in her excitement.

"This is Eleanor,"

Mira introduced them, knowing it had been quite some time since the elderly woman had last seen Ethan.

Her personal boundaries with Ethan aside, she still needed to consider the old woman's feelings.

"Eleanor!"

Ethan pulled her into a warm hug.

He genuinely hadn't expected to see her staying at Mira's place.

"This is Beatrice Whitlock, my wife,"

Eleanor hailed from a family with deep roots in the jewelry business; every piece she wore was worth a fortune.

The group chatted warmly over breakfast. Eleanor did most of the talking, endlessly asking about Ethan's life in Melvion City.

As people aged, they simply craved the company of the younger generation.

Honestly, Ethan had chosen to eat breakfast here specifically to close the distance between him and Mira. His hotel offered perfectly fine food.

"How is Sebastian doing?"

Ethan casually asked while keeping Eleanor company after the meal.

Eleanor hesitated for a moment before deciding to tell the truth.

Secrets always surfaced eventually. Since Ethan was planning to visit them today, he needed to know the reality before he walked into a conflict.

"What did you just say? Sebastian is marrying Seraphina off to Lawrence Lance?"

Wasn't that declaring open war against Mira?

Even if it was war, you didn't gamble away your own daughter's lifelong happiness! Lawrence was a known piece of trash.
