Hearing that the call was from the old lady, Gwen Quinn's temper instantly flared.
"Hmph, didn't she disown us? Just a few days ago, she was making a fuss about cutting all ties.
Now look, we stopped paying attention, and she's the one crawling back."
Gwen tilted her chin up, casually snacking on sunflower seeds.
"Let me guess, that niece of yours conned her out of her shares and then tossed her aside, so now the old bat is looking to us for her retirement.
Sebastian, let me be clear, you cannot agree to this.
Unless... unless..."
Gwen paused to think. "Unless Mira hands over all those shares and gives us a formal apology."
She said stubbornly.
Sebastian frowned. "What nonsense are you spouting? Mira isn't like that. If Mom is calling, it must be important."
With that, Sebastian pressed the answer button. "What? Sera is... pregnant? How is that possible?"
He stared at Seraphina, who was sitting nearby, in utter disbelief.
"Believe it or not, I'm just letting you know."
Then, the old lady hung up the phone.
"Nonsense! Slander! Smear tactics! Her own granddaughter is the one who's pregnant!
Hmph, Sebastian, do not listen to her.
That old hag is just like her granddaughter, incapable of speaking a single decent word."
Smack!
Sebastian slapped Gwen hard across the face.
"Who gave you the nerve to curse my mother like that?
I don't expect you to treat her like a saint, but keep your mouth clean. If I ever hear you disrespect my mother again, we're getting a divorce immediately."
"Dad, calm down, let's talk this out."
Miles Quinn grabbed his father's raised hand. Then he turned to Gwen. "Mom, how could you curse Grandma?"
Gwen deflated and muttered softly, "Why are you getting so angry? I was cursing Mira, not your mom."
It sounded like an excuse, but all her arrogance had vanished.
Sebastian ignored her. "That's final."
Miles chimed in to help persuade them. "Mom, it's better to get a check-up. If there's an issue, we can handle it quickly."
Meanwhile, Seraphina was still in a daze. Was she really pregnant?
She hadn't had her time of the month for a while, but she figured it would come eventually, as this had happened before.
Was she actually pregnant?
If Mira had yelled it out publicly, she might not have believed it and would have assumed it was just a smear campaign.
But since Mira had Grandma pass the message privately, Seraphina had to believe it.
Early the next morning, Sebastian personally took his daughter to the hospital. Because the stakes were so high, he couldn't trust Gwen with this.
The hospital was partly owned by the Quinn family, and they sought out a familiar doctor. Whether she was pregnant or not, word wouldn't get out.
Lines were crossed in private all the time, but if it came to light and the media got a hold of it, it would be a massive humiliation.
After the pregnancy test, father and daughter waited in the hospital.
Sebastian asked his daughter, "If it's true, what do you plan to do?"
