Lucas noticed that the research funds wired from the family accounts were steadily shrinking. He took time out of his grueling schedule to return home and confront his father. Adrian's response was blunt: "The company's cash flow is tight. Why don't you just settle down and work as a normal doctor? Drop the research."

Lucas was stunned. When Ethan was running things, he had supported his research unconditionally. He had never said anything like that!

Lucas was an absolute fanatic for medicine. How could he possibly stomach abandoning a project halfway through?

He called his younger brother, Damon, who simply replied, "Lucas, I'm just an actor. I can't afford to fund that massive research facility of yours."

He then called Julian, only to get a similar response. "All my financial assets are tied up with Ethan. If you need money for daily expenses, I can help you out. But funding a whole laboratory? That's impossible."

Lucas thought about calling Ethan directly, but he didn't have the face to do it.
