Likely influenced by Mira's dedication, Ryan was also an excellent student. Mira, of course, had maintained her position at the top of their grade for her entire academic life. They were the only two kids their age from the village to make it to high school.
The locals constantly joked that the Finn family's ancestors must be blessing them from the grave.
That year, several middle school seniors from the village had taken the entrance exams, but only the two Finn cousins had scored high enough to attend high school.
With her bag secured, Mira set off with Ryan.
The high school was located in town. Fortunately, their village wasn't too isolated—only about two miles away. The school offered dormitories, but space was incredibly limited. The administration prioritized students who lived much further away.
Since Mira and Ryan lived relatively close, they preferred commuting.
Walking the long distance every day was exhausting, but it meant coming home to hot meals. The students boarding at the school usually had to survive on stale bread and pickled vegetables for the entire week.
There was a cafeteria on campus, but in this poverty-stricken, mountainous region, barely anyone could afford to buy hot lunches.
"Come on, Minnie, hurry up. We're going to be late. I slept in a bit today, what's your excuse?"
Ryan asked as he straddled his bicycle. Mira swung her leg over the back seat and settled onto the rack.
"I had a crazy dream last night, so..."
Mira lied smoothly.
"We need to start waking up earlier. I really have to focus on studying now. I heard they're separating the classes for senior year.
With your grades, you're guaranteed a spot in the honors class. But I'm not so sure about myself."
"Don't worry about it. We still have three months until finals. Come over to my place after school, and I'll tutor you."
Mira had been a National Academic Laureate in her past life. Armed with her previous memories, there was zero chance of her failing now. Besides, she was already a top scholar here.
"Won't that cut into your own study time? It's a heavy workload," Ryan asked, a hint of concern in his voice.
