Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1258

"Ethan!"

Lacey and Adrian shouted in unison, with Lacey's voice ringing the loudest.

"Ethan!"

Julian stood up. He grabbed Ethan's arm and lowered his voice. "Just drop it. Are you trying to infuriate Mom and Dad?"

Meanwhile, Mara linked her arm through Lacey's. "Mom, please don't be mad at him. Ethan is just in a bad mood and spoke out of turn."

"If you're not going to eat, get the hell out! What exactly are you trying to pull?"

Adrian was furious. He slammed his hand on the table so hard that the plates and bowls rattled with a sharp clatter.

"Do you really want me to dig into things?"

Ethan countered, implicitly threatening Adrian about his relationship with Fiona, though he left the specifics unsaid.

Ethan wasn't holding back out of kindness; it simply wasn't the right time to tear everything down.

But as long as he held leverage over them, Adrian wouldn't dare kick him out of the house on a whim. At this stage, his father was still terrified of Lacey discovering his secret affair with Fiona.

Predictably, Adrian's tone softened. "Fiona rarely visits. She was going to leave, but your mother felt bad and insisted she stay for dinner."

Fiona quickly stepped in to placate Adrian. "Don't be so harsh on him, Adrian. Ethan just spoke without thinking in the heat of the moment. You can't just kick him out."

Fiona also knew it wasn't the right time to burn bridges with Lacey. She didn't have the Mercer Group firmly in her grasp yet.

She needed to bide her time. Once her daughter took control of the corporation, she would have nothing left to fear.

For the foreseeable future, Adrian, Fiona, and Ethan had reached a silent, tense standoff. On the surface, they maintained a bizarre equilibrium, but beneath it all, dark currents churned as each plotted their next move.

"Ethan, honestly. You're a grown man, yet you have zero tact."
