Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1253

So how was he standing here right now? Was the drug a fake? Had she been scammed?

Ethan didn't even spare Fiona or Adrian a glance as he strode directly toward the main podium. "Just as you all pointed out, I'm a healthy man in my twenties who works out regularly. I barely even catch colds."

"So how could I suddenly fall deathly ill?"

Ethan turned his gaze to Adrian, a mocking smirk curling his lips. "I'm quite curious myself. Dad, why don't you explain it to everyone?"

"Ethan, thank goodness you're awake."

Adrian's face was rigid, forcing a smile that looked worse than a grimace.

"Fiona and I were just explaining the situation to everyone."

Ethan stared at the paired-off couple. Honestly, their illicit dynamic was glaringly obvious at this point.

It was only because his foolish mother constantly vouched for Fiona, convincing the world she was Lacey's loyal confidante, that no one suspected the affair between Fiona and Adrian.

"Explaining what? I'd love to hear it."

Ethan kept his smile intact. Adrian, however, looked cornered. He knew his eldest son was sharp and ruthless, which was exactly why he had listened to Fiona and drugged him in the first place...

"Cat got your tongue, Dad?"

At that moment, an older shareholder spoke up. "Son, your father and Ms. Quinn have been defending you for an hour, trying to clean up your mess. Why are you interrogating him?"

"Defending me? Cleaning up my mess?"

"Dad, I wasn't aware I had made any mess that required your intervention. Why don't we clear the air right here, in front of everyone?"

Adrian finally realized his son wasn't going to let this go. He lowered his voice. "Ethan, there are too many people here. This is bad for our image. Whatever you want to say, we can discuss it behind closed doors at home."

He tried to placate his son, his eyes practically begging him to drop it.
