Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1188

A week later, Mira was sitting in a lecture hall when she suddenly spotted Jax Weaver standing by the door. Her heart dropped, and she immediately raised her hand to excuse herself.

Jax and Silas Vane had been protecting her on campus, but they were experts in stealth. Unless it was an absolute emergency, they never showed themselves in public—especially not during her classes.

"Is it Grandma Eleanor?"

Of all the people she cared about, Owen and Master Ellis were more than capable of defending themselves. Rachel was safe at the estate with elite guards.

The only vulnerable target was Eleanor.

"Miles Quinn called. He said the old lady is in critical condition," Silas answered, stepping out of the shadows.

The color drained from Mira's face. Suspecting an attack was one thing; having it confirmed was another nightmare entirely.

"Did he say what happened?"

Mira asked, already sprinting toward the campus exit.

"Poison!"

Despite all her precautions, the worst had happened.

"Call Master Ellis. Tell him Eleanor has been poisoned and he needs to get there immediately."

"Mira, do you need any help?"

Jillian Lowe called out, hurrying out of the classroom with a cautious look. Harvey Rivers and Elara Finn trailed behind her. Wyatt Wright and the class president also stepped out.

"Thank you all, but I have it handled. It's a medical emergency with my grandmother."

Mira handed her backpack to Jillian. "Pack up the books on my dorm desk and drop them off at my house later."

There was no time for pleasantries.

"Of course! I'll take them over right now!"

"No rush. After classes is fine. I won't need them until tonight."

"To be honest, I've been monitoring the Quinn estate's feeds, and nothing looked suspicious.

Before she collapsed, Eleanor had a bowl of Vintage Saffron Tonic. The ingredients were personally delivered by Miles, and Mrs. Higgins brewed it herself. No one else touched it..."

"I'm at the hospital. Keep investigating. I need to save her."

Flanked by her two bodyguards, Mira stormed into the hospital and found Eleanor in the ICU.

Standing outside the glass were Sebastian, Miles, and a heavily pregnant Seraphina Quinn.

Mira marched straight to the attending physician, slamming down her legal guardianship documents and her elite medical license. The nurses immediately handed her a sterile gown, allowing her to bypass the family and enter the ward.

"Why does she get to go in while we're stuck out here?!" Seraphina shrieked from the hallway.

No one paid her any attention. Every second counted.

The doctors had only managed basic emergency procedures—oxygen, gastric lavage, and cathartics. They hadn't even identified the toxin yet when Mira stepped inside.
