Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1103

Hank scoffed. "Totally jealous."

"So what if I am? Being territorial over my woman is completely normal. Got a problem with that?" Owen countered.

"Your skin is getting thicker by the day, I swear," Hank muttered.

Surprisingly, James actually caught the gist of their exchange. "Exactly! You're just jealous and petty!" he accused, pointing a finger at Owen.

...

Meanwhile, the scene playing out at a rival trading floor was far more chaotic.

"How is this possible? How? We dumped a massive amount of capital in, how the hell is the Baht's exchange rate going up?"

"Even with the government's aggressive countermeasures, it shouldn't be yielding results like this."

"Maybe retail investors are panic-buying to follow a trend."

"But why would retail traders latch on so fast? We were locked in a stalemate literally moments ago." The heads of various financial syndicates debated fiercely, voices overlapping in the tense room.

"No, a third-party syndicate must have entered the fray. Jason, run a trace immediately. Find out which account just injected the most capital."

Jason Croft immediately set to work. Moments later, he looked up with a grim scowl. "Their firewall is still impenetrable."

"James!" one of the syndicate leaders hissed through gritted teeth. It had to be him.

...

By the second and third days, the Siamese Baht continued its upward climb. When the fifth day arrived, Mira gave the order. "Close out the positions. Withdraw all capital."

James commanded his assistant to execute the trade, but he couldn't help asking, "Why?"

But this time, the syndicates targeting Southeast Asia were operating in the middle of a global meltdown. Even the juggernauts didn't have the bottomless pockets they once did; their available capital had to be severely diminished.

Because of that, Mira had flown in with modest expectations, ready to take whatever she could get. The results had utterly blown her away.

"Now that the money is safe in our accounts, can we finally drop the disguises?" Wesley asked.

"Better to keep a low profile for a bit. The syndicate bosses next door are likely losing their minds right now. We definitely shouldn't paint a target on our backs," Owen advised.

"And you, James. You've got the deepest pockets and the most prominent global reputation among us. When they come looking for a scapegoat, they'll inevitably gun for you. You'd better spend some time establishing a rock-solid alibi."

James sobered up slightly and nodded. "Good point."

Still, he couldn't help but feel a little slighted.

"Why am I the one suffering while you guys get off scot-free? Between all of you, you pulled in way more profit than I did!"
