Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1101

"Don't be nervous." Mira Mercer patted his cheek. "As long as you listen to me, I won't kick you to the curb."

"Hmph, setting a trap for me, little one? Aren't you afraid I'll leave you for someone more submissive?"

"You want a submissive little bird? Fine, I can play that part. From now on, you handle everything at the group. I'll just focus on looking pretty and clinging to you." With that, Mira leaned into Owen Lance's embrace...

Owen stroked the woman nestled in his arms. It was a damn good feeling. It wasn't as if he couldn't shoulder the burden of the empire alone. But there was no way he would let a brilliant rising star in the business world lose herself in domestic bliss.

"No way. Trying to slack off? Not happening," Owen said, keeping his expression stern.

He knew Mira was joking. There was no way she would actually step back to play the dutiful housewife. Still, he had to nip that idea in the bud.

He needed a partner in the trenches, not someone to keep the house tidy.

You could hire a maid for a few hundred dollars a week to do chores. Why on earth would he want his partner doing that? If worse came to worst, they'd just hire an executive assistant.

"Alright, alright, look how panicked you are! Terrified I'll actually slack off, huh?" She scoffed playfully. "Fine, I'm done playing the helpless little bird. I'll be your boss and boss you around until you're dizzy!"

Pausing for a moment, Mira circled back to their earlier conversation. "But Harvey Rivers is obviously no match for you. Whether it's credentials, capability, or capital, he falls short. The way I see it, he'll never catch up to you. So why is his reputation suddenly outshining yours?" It was the one thing she couldn't wrap her head around.

"I admit he's not on my level," Owen replied. "But the problem is that your rapid rise has completely eclipsed whatever spotlight I had. More importantly, I've spent the last two years willingly standing in your shadow."

As for Vivienne Voss, she was leagues behind Owen. She was merely managing assets for the Voss Group and hadn't achieved anything remotely remarkable.

"Vivienne's billion dollars isn't her personal money," Owen noted. "I'd bet she's leveraging the family's capital."

"If she takes a massive loss on this, it's going to cripple her standing within the Voss Group once she heads back. Her cousins will waste no time kicking her to the curb." Half the company was likely gunning for her Vice President seat.

"Lenny Forbes mentioned that Vivienne had been awfully close with the Lance siblings recently. She might have had a hand in the Mishka incident," Mira pointed out.

"Don't worry," Owen promised. "Whether she was involved, and to what extent—it'll all come to light eventually. None of them will escape."
