How hard could it be to look after an elderly man anyway? They had private doctors and round-the-clock nurses; at worst, they could just hire a couple more aides.
All they'd have to do was pop in when they were bored, say a few sweet words, and reap all the glory of being dutiful, devoted children.
"Grandfather explicitly designated me as his caretaker."
Owen gave a subtle nod to his secretary. The assistant immediately pulled out a legal document, fully complete with the old man's signature, fingerprint, and personal seal.
"And there's also this asset transfer agreement."
The secretary added, retrieving another meticulously finalized document from his briefcase.
Richard and Jocelyn scrutinized the papers, reading every single word in mounting horror.
"This is a fake! It has to be a fake! You forged this!"
Jocelyn shrieked like a lunatic. She snatched both documents and furiously ripped them in half, stacking the torn pages and shredding them again and again.
"Tear them up all you want. The agreements are already legally binding. Those were just copies."
Owen stated, utterly unfazed by her childish tantrum.
"Grandfather may have enabled your behavior in the past, but he certainly doesn't trust you. If you were capable of killing my mother, you're more than capable of killing him.
He doesn't trust a single one of you four.
The only person he trusts is me."
Owen wasn't lying. When he had taken the documents to his grandfather for signatures, the old man had been heavily sedated with hallucinogens and largely detached from reality.
But the moment he laid eyes on his eldest grandson, a smile broke out on his face, and he signed without hesitation.
When Lawrence had visited recently, the old man had instantly turned his head away in disgust.
When a person's mind was compromised, their truest, most deeply ingrained instincts always surfaced.
The old man was currently living quite comfortably at the sanatorium. He was well-fed, well-rested, and had a dedicated staff guiding him through light physical therapy, tending to flowers, and watching the koi ponds.
He was genuinely terrified that Owen would cut them off without a dime. If pushed to the brink, his ruthless son was capable of anything.
Richard snatched up the severance agreement, hastily scribbling his signature and stamping his personal seal.
Jocelyn tried to physically stop him, but the ink was already dry.
With that single stroke of a pen, Owen severed all ties with the toxic foursome. Now, he was entirely free to unleash the full fury of his revenge without holding back.
Whether they lived or died, flourished or burned to the ground—it would no longer affect the Lance Group's stock, nor would it ever trace back to him.
Having successfully closed that grim chapter of his life, Owen found his mood significantly lifted. When the workday ended, he specifically instructed Brayden Knox to take a detour to the Solflare Group headquarters so he could pick Mira up.
After parking the car, Owen led the Iron Wolves toward the familiar glass facade of Solflare Tower. Knowing his fiercely stubborn girl, she was undoubtedly still buried in paperwork.
He had fought countless battles within this very building over the past year, single-handedly steering her fledgling company onto the right track.
Now that she was coming into her own power, it was finally time to let her shoulder the empire herself.
