"We were completely against transferring Felicia to the Balkan Underworld in the first place, but she kicked up a fuss, begging and pleading with anyone who would listen to get on that deployment list.
Look at her now. She practically signed her own death warrant," Callum said.
"To actually collude with terrorists? The sheer audacity. She got exactly what she deserved."
A major from the tactical unit chimed in. As one of the commanding officers on the mission, he was fully briefed on the Felicia situation.
"Most people would run for the hills to avoid those syndicates, yet she actively sought them out? I have no idea how her parents raised her," another officer muttered.
He glanced at York. "I heard her father is a high-ranking official?"
York nodded. "That's why she always threw her weight around at the base, acting like the rules didn't apply to her.
She wasn't even supposed to be on this mission, but she threw a tantrum until they let her go. We assumed she was just fiercely competitive and wouldn't mess around when it came to matters of life and death, but who could have guessed...
Not only did she sell our internal intel to terrorists, but the keys she handed us for the munitions crates were completely fake.
She's rotten to the core. She treated her comrades' lives like a sick joke."
"Then she deserves to rot," the officer spat, his voice laced with venom. There was nothing they despised more than a traitor.
"Just what kind of payout did those terrorists offer to make her risk everything?"
"Who knows," York replied flatly.
He had no intention of revealing that Felicia's treason was born out of her psychotic jealousy toward Mira.
...
Lance Manor.
Lawrence Lance and Seraphina Quinn had stopped by for a visit, and Jocelyn Lance ordered the staff to prepare an elaborate spread of fruit and pastries.
The family gathered in the living room, chatting over the refreshments.
"How can she be so venomous? She's a public figure, yet she cuts off her own biological mother?" Jocelyn sighed dramatically. "I heard your grandmother has been staying at Mira's place. They must be close.
You could get your grandmother to persuade her."
"It's useless. We went over there several times recently, and she wouldn't even let me see Grandma Eleanor," Seraphina replied.
Lawrence smoothly picked up a massive cherry and brought it to Seraphina's lips. "Eat up, honey. Mom had these prepared especially for you."
Sent to jail almost immediately after their wedding, Lawrence was now treating Seraphina like royalty since managing to post bail.
He had thoroughly cut ties with his usual rotation of mistresses.
Though Lawrence was malicious to the bone, he knew exactly how to read a room. With his own power stripped away, he was entirely dependent on the Quinn family. Offending Seraphina was not an option.
Because of his attentive doting, Seraphina felt completely validated in her marriage, completely ignoring his precarious legal situation.
