Harvey Rivers let out a helpless sigh. "Busy is fine. At least we're doing our part for our rescued compatriots."
Mira Mercer and Owen Lance left the internment camp, their vehicle heading straight for Barlow National Bank.
On the way, Mira called Celine Ward. The moment the line connected, Celine asked impatiently, "Mira, how did it go?"
"Your aunt and Sienna Stanford are safe. We got them out."
"Oh, thank God. Thank you so much."
Even through the phone, Mira could feel Celine's overwhelming relief and excitement.
"It wasn't just me. It was a team effort."
"Thank you to everyone, and especially you, Mira."
"Hold off on the thanks for now. I need to tell you that Sienna and your aunt aren't in the best condition. You need to brace yourself."
"What's wrong with them? Are they disabled? Did someone harvest their organs?"
"No, nothing like that. It's their mental state."
"That's fine, as long as they are physically intact. After going through such hell, it's normal for them to be traumatized.
We can get them into therapy once they are back."
"I hope so.
To be completely honest, when I saw them today, Sienna didn't even recognize me."
Mira felt it was best to give Celine a heads-up so she could mentally prepare.
"It's okay. When they get back, we'll hire the best psychiatrists in the country."
Having said her piece, Mira didn't want to sound entirely pessimistic as a friend.
Entrusting such valuable assets to Barlow National Bank for transport was the safest bet.
"He's right. You completely dismantled their operations. The local cartels are furious, and they won't let you leave the country so easily.
You might just have another bloodbath on your hands."
James agreed.
Finally, they finalized their schedule to travel to the Javenaire Federation. After withdrawing two million dollars in cash from the bank, Mira and Owen took their leave.
Cash was king when operating in hostile territory. Balkana was an underdeveloped region; the locals didn't care about wire transfers, only hard, cold bills.
Mira had originally hoped to get back early to help Master Ellis synthesize more chemical agents, but night had already fallen, leaving them short on time.
If they were deploying tomorrow, their small team would likely be up all night preparing the necessary supplies.
However, before they even reached their hotel, Owen received a call from Dominic West. "We aren't leaving tomorrow. The official handover between the authorities wasn't completed this afternoon."
