"Why were you crying? What happened back there?"
Mira asked in a hushed tone.
"They... they took my boy," she whimpered.
"Keep it down. If you start wailing, I'm taking your voice away again."
The woman swallowed her sobs instantly.
"Why did they take your son?"
Mr. Whitlock stepped forward.
"Because I couldn't take it anymore. I tried to quit, so they snatched my son to keep me in line.
They told me if I walked away, they'd butcher him for his organs..."
"What is your job exactly?"
"I've been a maid at their estate for ten years... They're heartless monsters."
"Whose estate?"
Mira pressed.
"The owners."
"The hospital owners? You mean Mishka's family?"
"Yes! She's a demon in human flesh...
She dragged some man back once. One of the younger maids just glanced at him, and Mishka gouged the poor girl's eye out right in front of the rest of us.
After that... she sold the half-blind girl off to a filthy brothel...
I'm so terrified... I hope she rots in hell...
I walked on eggshells serving that family for a decade. All I wanted was to leave, and she... she had her thugs steal my baby..."
"Do you want her dead?"
"More than anything in this world.
Who are you people? Why are you asking me this? You don't work for her, do you?"
"If we worked for Mishka, do you really think we'd be standing here having a polite conversation?
You'd already be in the back of a van."
Mira said flatly.
The woman visibly sagged in relief.
"We're just like you. We're her enemies."
"You... you're going to kill her?"
The woman whispered, shivering.
"How many people are currently residing in the house?"
"Just Mishka and her parents. Aside from them, it's only the butler and the domestic staff."
"Do you carry a phone?"
"Yes, but it's syndicate-issued. It's hard-locked to only call my family and their internal lines.
If I dial an outside number, they'll beat me half to death."
Mira thought for a moment. "Are you allowed to leave the grounds for errands?"
"Yes, but we have to request leave from the butler, and there's a strict curfew."
Owen anticipated Mira's thought process. "Mira, don't even think about handing her a burner. It won't work.
They run massive scam compounds; they definitely sweep the estate for unauthorized electronics daily."
Instead, Mira handed the cook a sleek pen and a small notepad.
"If you gather any critical intel, write it down. Whenever you run errands..."
Mira quickly established a dead drop location and a discreet visual marker, then sent the woman back into the night.
When the time came, Master Ellis would deploy someone to retrieve the notes.
Surrounded by military-grade signal jammers, analog espionage was the only play they had left.
