Killian stepped forward. "Winona was also injured during the accident. She's in no condition to give blood. I'll go get tested."
Sylvan's face contorted with outrage. "A life is on the line here! Winona has a tiny scratch, and she's refusing to even test for my daughter? Are you really that cold-blooded?"
Winona found his aggressive guilt-tripping repulsive.
She might have been willing to test just a moment ago, but his entitlement instantly killed any sense of charity.
She turned to Killian, her voice ice-cold. "Don't bother. Testing is useless."
Sylvan exploded. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?! You just want to stand here and watch my daughter die?!"
Winona shot him a withering look. "Mr. Scully, you were a doctor for years. Have you forgotten basic medical protocols? A direct transfusion without proper cross-matching from the blood bank causes fatal hemolysis. It would kill her instantly. Your time would be much better spent screaming at the regional blood center for an emergency dispatch instead of throwing a tantrum at us."
In his blind panic, Sylvan had genuinely forgotten the protocol. He glared at Winona with pure venom, then spun on his heel and stormed off.
Killian looked at Winona, letting out a heavy sigh. "Good call. Even if we played the hero, a guy like that wouldn't show an ounce of gratitude. He'd just treat us like his personal blood bags because he thinks he owns the world."
Winona had figured out Sylvan's true nature a long time ago.
He was a selfish, hypocritical narcissist with a severe savior complex. She didn't believe for a second that his frantic concern was rooted in genuine paternal love. It was just another theatrical performance to reinforce his self-appointed title of "Father of the Year."
Shortly after Winona and Killian left, Wynne arrived at the hospital.
Even though Giselle wasn't her real daughter, she still had to play her part in this twisted game.
Seeing her arrive, Sylvan's eyes went red with manufactured distress. "Wynne, a machine piece ruptured Giselle's artery. But don't worry, I've already pulled strings with the blood bank for an emergency transfer. She's going to be fine."
Internally, Wynne cursed his existence. Keeping her face perfectly composed, she ignored him entirely and walked to the bed, her voice dripping with fake maternal warmth. "Giselle, sweetheart, how are you? Are you in a lot of pain?"
Giselle offered a weak, pitiful smile. "I'm okay, Mom. It's not as bad as Dad made it sound."
"I've already had the chef start on some restorative broths for you," Wynne said softly. "I'll stay right here with you for the next few days."
"Thank you, Mom. You're the best," Giselle cooed.
Desperate to insert himself into the picture, Sylvan interjected. "Wynne, that Winona girl is completely heartless. You've been so incredibly generous to her, but when Giselle was bleeding out and I asked her to test for a transfusion, she flatly refused without a second thought."
