A few of his friends, seeing he was drinking alone, came over to keep him company.

As the alcohol flowed, the conversation naturally devolved into complaining about marriage and family life.

"Being married is a trap," one of them slurred. "Your wife and kids always want you to spend time with them, but who has the time when you're grinding at work?"

Another chimed in, "The worst part is after they give birth. Their bodies get ruined, their stomachs look awful, and it totally kills the mood in the bedroom."

Listening to them, Yulen thought of how hollow and exhausted Tallulah looked right now, and a sudden wave of revulsion washed over him.

A third friend poured Yulen another drink and chuckled enviously. "Honestly, we're all jealous of you, Yulen. You've got one woman managing the house and another one on the side. Sure, Winona can't give you kids, but she's going to stay young and gorgeous forever. Keeping her around as a little pet on the side is the perfect setup."

A violent urge to throw a punch flared in Yulen's chest.

He shoved his glass away and viciously kicked the man's shin. "Get the hell out! Who gave you the right to talk about my wife like that?!"

Assuming he meant Tallulah, the men nervously apologized, terrified of offending him, and quickly scrambled out of the apartment.

The room fell dead silent.

Yulen slumped onto the sofa and eventually passed out.

He dreamt of the day he confessed his love to Winona. In the dream, he happily held her hands, refusing to let go. Suddenly, Winona's face turned icy cold. "Yulen, if you ever betray me, I will leave you, and I will never, ever forgive you."

Yulen woke up with a splitting headache, still lying on the sofa.

He called his assistant to bring over some painkillers, then dragged himself to the bathroom to wash up. After downing the pills, he got ready to head to the office.

On the drive over, Tallulah called him.

Her voice was thick with tears. "Yulen, your mom won't let me see my baby."

She had just returned home from the exclusive postpartum retreat and wanted to hold her son, but Willow had barred her from the nursery, telling her the maternity nurse had it handled and that she should go back to bed.

Tallulah was terrified Willow was trying to steal the baby's affection so he would never bond with his own mother. If that happened, she would have absolutely no leverage in the Locke family. She needed this child to eventually seize control of the company.

She couldn't just sit around recovering anymore. If she had no power in the house, she had to seize power at the company.

She immediately called Conrad to check on the HSV-121 project.

When Conrad told her the bottleneck had been resolved, Tallulah was stunned. "How? Who fixed it?"

Had Locke Group secretly hired a new R&D Director while she was on maternity leave?

"We don't know," Conrad admitted. "Camille brought in an external consultant to solve it."

Tallulah ground her teeth. The memory of Camille looking down on her made her blood boil. Camille was married into another family—why was she always meddling in Locke Group's business? Didn't her own husband have a company to run? She was so overstepping her bounds!

Still, Tallulah was desperate to know who this mystery expert was. To outsmart Tanner Yates, they had to be brilliant. If she could throw enough money at this person to ghostwrite her future R&D plans, her problems would be solved.

She ordered her assistant to buy an expensive gift and bribe Camille's assistant for the consultant's name.

By that afternoon, her assistant returned with the answer.
