The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back) novel Chapter 84

Some Chairs Stay Empty

HANNAH’S POV:

A WEEK LATER:

After agreeing to dinner with Elijah’s parents and preparing for it, even hinting the twins on meeting at least one set of grandparents, it only ended up being a huge disappointment as they neither showed up nor called nor did they even offer any apology.

Elijah was so livid and I urged him to call in fear that something happened to his mother but when he called he was taken aback by the change of heart.

He refused to tell me what she had said but I heard her say, “She just came back after seven years and you take Her back with wide arms, what is wrong with you? Janet is the one who stood by you….. Did you even have a DNA test taken? I strongly doubt they are yours, she isn’t what is right for you.”

She seemed to have a lot more to say but I could no longer stand there and be disrespected any further so I walked away with anger pumping through my veins. I knew it was only a matter of time because my kindness and consideration caused me disappointment.

Her loss. I just hate that I mentioned it to the kids.

I really thought they were going to meet their grandparents especially during this weekend where they had been asked to make their family tree and I thought it would be nice for them to meet the members personally.

Just about twenty minutes before the call, Martin, who Elijah liked to call Victor, had arrived at the house and it was a pleasant surprise for Elijah. He was his brother who wasn’t publicly known because he was in rehab and he was a troublemaker when he was in his teens.

As I spoke to him, I realized he was funny and loved being away from the spotlight as it had helped him to make all types of decisions both good and bad and another reason why both Mr and Mrs Martinez hid his existence was because he was gay.

So they were homophobic too? Isn’t that neat?

Just as I was heading upstairs to let the kids know it will just be a simple dinner between us, I heard the doorbell ring and I frowned wondering who it was, when one of the maids opened it revealing Lucas.

“Is everything okay?” I asked, frowning deeply walking towards Lucas who walked through the door clenching and unclenching his jaw. 1

He remained silent and in the years of living with him and knowing him, it meant he was angry and he needed a minute before he would burst.

Martin was seated by the pool as we waited for dinner to get ready, so I asked one of the helps to pour me a chilled glass of the wine for Lucas. 1

I handed it to him and he took a few sips without uttering a word. His eyes were burning, voice caught somewhere between fury and exhaustion. I recognized it instantly, it was a look of a man holding in too much for too long. We hadn’t spoken for about a week and that was the longest we had gone without speaking as work at least always drew us closer but we had been consumed with the other aspects of work.

“Lucas?” I pressed gently. “What happened?” I inquired, placing my hand ontop of his.

He quickly apologized and said, “Dinner is served and didn’t want to interrupt. I will go call Elijah.”

He walked off awkwardly and Lucas cleared his throat and asked staring as he walked off, “Who is that?”

“Elijah’s brother, Martin.” I responded looking at him and said, “Why don’t you join us for dinner? We can continue conversing and the food is amazing.”

Lucas nodded and smiled, “I would never turn down great food, especially after I had a day like this.”

I smiled and rose to my feet and hugged him, with his head resting on my stomach and he wrapped his arms around my waist. Just as I turned around, I saw Elijah staring at us with a look of disapproval making me roll her eyes in a full circle.

I called the kids and in about ten minutes, we were all seated on the dinning table, serving foods, passing plates and drinking wine.

There was light conversation going on between Elijah and Martin, the twins and Lucas and I.

As Lucas continued talking, it drew everyone’s attention and Martin stared at him and said, “I just might like this one.”
