The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back) novel Chapter 81

First Day And New Beginnings

3RD POV:

THREE DAYS LATER:

After the meeting with Mrs Martinez, Hannah had been withdrawn from Elijah, and Elijah had noticed it too. She just kept pondering the entire conversation.

During the weekend, she worked on different sketches, projects and documents in the home office and played with the kids and prepared them for school, completely ignoring Elijah’s existence.

Today however was the children’s first day at their new school. The morning light filtered softly through the wide kitchen windows, casting golden lines across the tiled floor. Hannah moved around carefully, checking bags, lunch boxes, and name tags for what felt like the fifth time. She spoke with the chef and the kids nanny a couple times and they had assured her everything was arranged.

She’d always been particular about details, but today it wasn’t just about organization. It was nerves, hidden behind her calm efficiency.

Amelia sat on the counter, swinging her legs while adjusting the yellow ribbon in her hair. “Mom, do I really have to wear this? It makes me look like I’m six.”

“No it doesn’t princess.” Hannah replied automatically, zipping up Andrew’s backpack.

Andrew, who was sitting at the table examining his new pair of sneakers, smirked. “You’re actually not so far from being a six Amelia.”

She glared at him and retorted, “We are the same age and you think you’re my dad and act like a dad.”

“I’m basically a dad,” he shot back confidently, slipping his water bottle into his bag.

Elijah had handled everything, the paperwork, the fees, even the uniforms were delivered in beautifully wrapped boxes. He had taken initiative in a way that surprised her, and yet, somewhere deep down, a question itched:

Why does it feel like I’m slowly letting him in? What if he does something to the kids?

She didn’t want to. She reminded herself of that every morning when she saw him around the house, trying to get along with the kids, fixing little things, asking for her opinion on dinner. He was trying, she saw that, but part of her feared that every small acceptance was another crack forming in the wall she’d spent years building.

In about twenty minutes, they had finally arrived at the school and both her and Elijah got down from the car helping the twins out.

Elijah knelt in front of them and tried to help Andrew fix his backpack, but Andrew snapped and stepping back with a deep frown, “I got it!”

Elijah nodded slowly and watched as both Amelia and Andrew kissed Hannah’s cheek, “We are big now, so don’t cry, okay mummy?” Amelia said making the both of them laugh.
