chapter 431 Mary in My Kitchen
MARL’S POV:
She and I had once mourned the loss of a sweet life together. I owed a massive personal debt to her late sister. That was the simple, undeniable truth of the matter, a heavy debt that weighed on my shoulders, a deep moral obligation, and a shared sorrow that had briefly tied our lives together before the terrible weight of it pulled us apart forever. I had given my absolute word to protect her younger sister, and I had failed to keep that promise. The heavy guilt of that failure had followed my footsteps for years, serving as a dark shadow I could never shake off my back.
Only a complete fool like Alistair would ever look at a cunning woman like Vesper and treat her like some kind of precious treasure, while completely failing to see that she was nothing more than a dangerous, venomous snake sitting in his house. She had been playing him for a fool from the very beginning, manipulating his emotions, using his family name, and taking full advantage of his wealth. And he was far too blind to see the obvious truth staring him right in the face, completely lost inside his own ridiculous fantasies and selfish desires.
I had personally warned Vesper multiple times not to push her luck too far. I had told her directly to her face, in clear, simple language, that there were certain lines she should never cross in this life. I had handed her several chances to pack her bags, walk away quietly, and stop her wicked behavior once and for all. But she had completely ignored every single warning I gave her. She had kept pushing her luck, foolishly believing that she was completely untouchable, and convincing herself that her pretty face and fake charm would shield her from any real consequences.
So now, she was going to pay the ultimate price for her choices.
Listening to Alistair lower his voice on the line as he continued to ramble on about his corporate plans, I simply pulled the phone away from my face and set it down. I placed the mobile device flat on the wide windowsill, the bright screen still glowing in the dark, with his distant voice crackling uselessly through the small speaker. He was talking to an empty room now, completely oblivious to the fact that I had stopped listening to his words long ago.
