The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back) novel Chapter 424

His Golden Cage

MARY’S POV:

Even though I no longer had Hotch standing beside me to guide my legal steps, I refused to drag him into any more of my family disasters. The poor man was currently lying in a hospital room with severe injuries entirely because he had tried to help me escape my husband’s driveway. His ribs were cracked, his head had suffered a terrible concussion, and his whole body was bruised and broken. I already carried far too much heavy guilt in my heart over what had happened to him tonight, and the mere thought of placing his life in danger a second time was something I could not bear to live with. I simply could not bring myself to ask him to risk his safety for my problems ever again.

It was finally time for me to grow up, stand on my own two feet, and resolve this entire nightmare all by mysel

Alistair must have sensed the sudden change in my posture, because he pulled his phone away from his ear and narrowed his dark eyes at me.

His sharp eyes studied every single detail of my face, taking in my cold expression. He knew me far too well, having lived under the same roof with me for years, and he could instantly read the subtle shifts in my posture and the quiet maths shining in my eyes. He took a broad step forward and reached his long arm out toward my chest, his cold fingers brushing against my upper arm in a possessive, familiar hold that made my skin crawl.

“Mary,” he said, his harsh voice dropping into a soft, gentle tone that sounded completely fake to my ears. “I know you are deeply upset about everything that happened tonight. I know your emotions are running completely wild right now because of the shock. But I am genuinely worried about your well–being. Please, just come back home with me. I will call the driver to bring the large car around to the front entrance, and we can sit down and discuss all of this privately like mature adults.”

I yanked my arm backward out of his grasp, stepping away from him. “I am not stepping foot into another car with you ever again.”
