Seven Years and Still Not Over
3RD POV:
A FEW DAYS LATER:
“So what are you going to do?” Jacob inquired as they stood by the bar, sipping out their drink.
Cherry was back in town and Janet suggested that it would be a perfect time to officially meet them. So she suggested dinner and Elijah agreed, as he was always finding means to not be alone with her as everything about/ her seemed to be infuriating him. Even just the sound of her voice annoyed him and he concluded this hate would only become worse unless he decides to leave her.
Elijah held onto his glass tightly as anger ran through his veins just thinking about the image he had seen earlier, “She is still legally married to me so she’s definitely not married to him. But wasn’t it two kids she had in her arms? She already has kids for him or are they just her friend’s children?”
He asked rhetorically knowing Jacob couldn’t provide an answer, then he added, “Whatever the case might be, I’m going to get my answers and whether I have to do it the easy way or the hard way, I’m going to get MY WIFE back.”
Jacob let out a breath and muttered to himself while staring at Janet and Cherry who talked amongst themselves as they arranged for dinner, “I shouldn’t have sent it to him. I forgot how crazy he could get.”
FLASHBACK
A FEW HOURS BEFORE.
The day had started the way most of Elijah’s days did before dawn, with emails from different continents flashing across his inbox, all demanding answers before breakfast. Prestige Investments, his empire, wasn’t just a bank. It was a living machine, sprawling across continents, and every hour something went wrong somewhere. In addition, he was still running the family’s company, so his plate was always full.
“Are you leaving already?” He heard Janet ask just as he grabbed his suitcase about to walk out the door.
He muttered a simple ‘yes’ and paused, and she stood up walking towards him naked with tired eyes. But his bored expression did not change, and as soon as she tried to kiss him, he dodged it.
“Morning breath. I will see you later.” She stood there and watched him leave without glancing at her and exited out of the room.
She was left standing there dumbfounded, “Did he just say morning breath?”
He was sick of her just laying around, gossiping all the day with the girls and then complaining about every single thing in the world especially her model career when it was evident to him that she didn’t much about it.
A thought had crossed his mind that made him chuckle, Or was she behaving her that way because she assumed I would soon marry her and she’d just be an house wife?
He laughed at the thought as he knew she didn’t have it in her. She never cooked, she barely made sure he was alright as she loved the sound of her own voice and she didn’t even care enough to be taking any form of care for him.
She wasn’t the one.
In addition to his day being further ruined, as the others filed out, his secretary, slipped into the room with a hesitant look. “Sir, your mother is here.”
Elijah’s jaw clenched. “I told you, no interruptions.”
“She insisted. She’s… already on her way up.”
Before he could respond, the double doors swung open and his mother swept inside in a tailored blue suit, her pearl earrings glinting. Her perfume preceded her, it was sharp, floral, the same scent that clung to his childhood.
“My handsome son.” Her voice carried the authority and he already knew what the topic of the conversation was going to be. “Do you mean to avoid me in my own city?”
He pinched the bridge of his nose trying his best to mask his distaste. “Mother, I’m working.”
“Working, always working. You’ll work yourself into an early grave, and for what? Numbers on a screen? Papers on a desk?” She strode closer, ignoring the stiff body language of her son. “Do you even remember you have a family? And that you have responsibilities beyond this office?”
Elijah sat back down, deliberately slow. “If this is about Janet, don’t start.” He instantly dismissed.
“It is about Janet. She is waiting, Elijah. A good woman from a good family, patient despite your distance. How long do you think she’ll tolerate being treated like an afterthought? How long before society begins to whisper that you’re a failure of a man keeping a goddess like her around and still not marrying her?”
