His Regret, My Freedom
HANNAH’S POV:
THAT SAME DAY:
As the car drove by the highway, the lights from the city gleamed through my eyes and I was growing more nervous than I expected. Although I’d never show it to anyone, especially with the divorce papers next to me, my head up high and while I looked and smelled this great. I sat in the back of the SUV after going back home to freshen up and drop off the kids leaving them watching a cartoon.
Lucas had offered to drop them off at home but I declined and i know by the look that he had given me, if we were good, he would have teased the life out of me but Maya on the other hand kept making sure I was alright and if t is indeed what I plan to do. She was so caring and considerate like always,
I had Kara, my assistant, agree to the dinner and take down time and place. It was a high end fancy restaurant with five star ratings, and I had picked out a dress to match. It was red tight fitted backless gown done made with a silk fabric. I adorned myself with gold accessories and applied a new bottle of perfume I had just ordered. My hair was curled down and my makeup was done lightly with bold red lipstick.
I felt so beautiful, and I knew I was.
If all things go well, I would be joining Lucas at a charity ball, to make yet another public appearance in a hotel about ten minutes away from the restaurant I was headed to.
I had no idea about this restaurant as it was just built three years ago, but I was conversant with the hotel where the ball was taking place. I recall there was a gathering my parents had been invited to and I was just ten and Janet was nine, and they both planned to show off their beautiful daughter, Janet, to all their friends so we both tagged along with them. After the gathering, I remember I couldn’t sleep as I spent all night, talking to my stuffed animal asking if I was invisible or could turn invisible. 1
I was so ignored so much so I wasn’t offered a drink while Janet had received like three cups. She barely even glanced at me, taking in all the attention. It made me feel ugly and heaven knows I have never been ugly.
I was beautiful and I wish I could back and reassure my younger self.
“Thank you.” I appreciated as my driver took my hands and helped me out the car.
I smiled as I let out a shaky breath and stepped in. I was welcomed me with a wide smile by the maitre’d his eyes glinting when he read my name on the reservation.
“Welcome Mrs Hannah Martinez.” I couldn’t help scoff as soon as he called me that making him pause but I smiled reassuringly as he had no business in this and he looked scared at a mere scoff.
“It’s been seven years…and I have thought about you every single day since you left and Lord knows I regret every single thing…how I treated you, how I could have been better… I am truly and deeply sorry.” He apologized and wanted to ignore it so bad but the sincerity in eyes and voice was loud.
It doesn’t matter. He hurt you in ways nobody ever has. I reminded myself and just let him talk.
He rambled about missing me, searching for me by hiring a private investigator who couldn’t find anything, about seeing me at the meeting when he was never expecting to see me ever again.
“And I think we should raise a toast to your company, and all your success. You’re thriving and you out of everyone in this entire universe deserves it more than anything.” He smiled with glassy eyes and his words poured like honey, sticky and sweet, but I had to know better.
He paused when he noticed I just stared at him and sipped out of the amazing glass of red wine.
“You have to be the most beautiful woman I have ever laid my eyes on…” He stared at me with adoration and tried to reach for my hand across the table which made me flinch.
