The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back) novel Chapter 306

Completely In You

HANNAH’S POV:

Maya was already inside when we arrived, which nobody was surprised by. She had been there since before seven, clipboard in hand, headset in place, everything in order before a single guest walked through the door,

The lobby looked exactly as I had imagined it. The flowers were right. The signage was right. The catering for the reception afterward was confirmed. And Kate had done something particular with the hospitality table that Maya had tried to adjust twice and then left alone because it was honestly better than what she had planned, which Maya had informed me of in advance so I would not be caught off guard.

“Go and be present,” Maya said when I found her. “I have everything.”

She did. She always had everything.

Jacob and Cherry came with their little daughter Mirada, who was four months old and already conducting a very thorough ongoing assessment of the world around her with the focused attention of someone who had somewhere to be and was not going to miss anything,

I held her for a few minutes before Cherry gently took her back because her beautiful daughter had strong opinions about being held by people who were not her established inner circle, which Cherry delivered as a fact with great pride.

Cherry had dressed her daughter for the occasion in a very small outfit with a tiny bow, which the baby was tolerating with the polite patience of someone who had decided to pick her battles.

“She is looking at everything,” Cherry said proudly, watching her daughter survey the lobby. “She has been doing that since she was about three weeks old. Just watching everything. She does not miss anything.”

“She has her mother’s eyes,” I said.

“She has her father’s ears,” Cherry said, with the tone of someone who had accepted this and moved on.

God in the main hall in front of the Mirada heritage wall and he was quiet for a long time. I stood beside and waited.

Cherry came to stand on his other side, Mirada Cherry in the carrier against her chest, and she looked at the photograph and her face did something I could not fully describe. Then she reached out and touched the corner of the frame very lightly with one finger.

“She knows your name,” Cherry said quietly, to the photograph. “She knows who you are.”

I pressed my hand over my mouth.

The wall had Mirada’s photograph at the centre. The one with the sunflowers. Enlarged and beautifully framed. Around it were her designs, printed from the scans of the originals, with her handwriting visible in the margins of several of them. The original partnership agreement document was there too, framed and annotated, because it was evidence and it was history and it was hers and the world was going to see it.

Adele stood in front of it and I stood beside her and neither of us said anything for a while.

“She would have stood here for a long time,” Adele said finally.

“Yes,” I said.

“She would not have cried,” Adele said. “She was not a crier.”

I smiled. “I know someone like that.”

Adele turned and looked at me and her eyes were wet even though she was not, as noted, a crier. “She is in you,” she said. “So completely in you.”

I took her hand and held it and we stood together in front of Mirada Kensington’s wall in the building that bore my company name.
