The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back) novel Chapter 143

HANNAH’S POV:

“You were never my sister. You were just a charity case. You heard my parents confession, didn’t you?” She cut in sharply.

The words stabbed deeper than any knife could. Her mother stepped forward beside her, arms crossed. “And you were never our daughter.”

The constant reminder hit me again with cruel force, but there was no time to process it now. Fire/hovered inches away from my death.

“Janet, please,” I sobbed uncontrollably. “I forgive you. Whatever you think I did, I forgive you. Just don’t do this. Please.”

“Forgive me? I don’t need your forgiveness, I just need you to die. You always sound so noble when you’re scared,” she answered quietly. “It’s disgusting.”

She flicked the lighter and a small flame danced to life in her hand. The room felt like it folded in on itself.

“GOODBYE, HANNAH,” she said suddenly. “Enjoy my gift.

“No!” I screamed. “Janet, please!”

She dropped the flame and fire erupted instantly.

The fuel ignited in a violent whoosh, flames racing across the floor in seconds. Heat slammed into me so forcefully I screamed in agony as the fire crawled toward the chair.

I thrashed wildly, the ropes cutting into my skin as smoke filled my lungs. Janet backed away toward the door, watching with wide, almost ecstatic eyes as the flames spread.

No one answered. The flames climbed higher. Suddenly I remembered when Janet and I were younger and we were playing with a few kids from school. I really didn’t have friends so I got excited when she asked to join her friends and during hide and seek, I hid in the closet and it was so tiny but I managed to squat there. Janet locked the closet and I was there for hours, begging and calling for but she didn’t budge.

One of our maids eventually found me and I hugged her for hours and when she reprimanded Janet who was sipping hot cocoa and eating cookies, Janet didn’t care and my parents didn’t either when it was reported.

My skin burned. My vision blurred. My voice cracked as I sobbed for mercy that never came. A part of me wasn’t ever scared with all the threats Janet had been saying since she kidnapped me, hoping she would have a change of heart because at the end of the day, I was her sister and I would never do this to her.

Everything was hurting.

“Elijah…” I cried weakly. “Please find me…”

The room became an inferno of heat, smoke, and terror as I fought for life with the last strength I had left.
