Love Looks Like This
HANNAH’S POV:
“Stop,” I said, laughing.
Martin stepped forward next. “He’s right though. You look stunning, Hannah.” He gave me a side hug, and I caught a whiff of his cologne. “And you smell fantastic!”
“Thank you! So do you. Both of you clean up very well.”
“We try,” Lucas said with a grin.
But then something surprising happened. Mrs. Martinez stood up from her seat and turned toward them with a warm smile.
“Lucas,” she said warmly. “Martin. So wonderful to see you both.”
She reached out and pulled Martin into a hug, then did the same with Lucas.
Lucas looked absolutely shocked. His eyes went wide, and he shot me a quick glance that clearly said ‘What is happening?’
I couldn’t blame him for being confused. He knew the history. He knew how the Martinez family had treated me years ago. He knew about the lies and the manipulation. And he definitely knew that Mrs. Martinez wasn’t exactly known for warm, welcoming hugs.
“Good evening, ma’am,” Lucas said, recovering his composure. He cleared his throat awkwardly. “Good evening, sir,” he added, nodding to Mr. Martinez, who had appeared beside his wife.
“And I heard the wonderful news,” Mrs. Martinez continued, her smile growing even wider. “I’m so happy for both of you. We both are.”
She gestured to her husband, who nodded with his own smile.
Lucas and Martin exchanged confused glances.
“The news?” Lucas asked carefully. “What news?”
Mrs. Martinez looked puzzled. “About the two of you! Elijah told me.”
“I didn’t tell her anything,” Elijah said quickly, raising his hands in surrender while taking a sip of his drink.
Mrs. Martinez frowned. “Then who…”
“Grandma, I told you!” Andrew’s voice piped up from his seat. He was munching on a bread roll, looking extremely pleased with himself. “About Uncle Lucas and Uncle Martin! I said they were so cute together! Remember? Like three minutes ago when you were asking me about school?”
The table went completely silent for a beat.
Then Lucas and Martin froze, their faces going through several expressions at once: shock, embarrassment, and something that might have been amusement.
Elijah choked on his drink, coughing and reaching for a napkin.
Amelia gasped dramatically, her hand flying to her mouth.
I had to cover my own mouth to hide the laugh that was threatening to escape.
Mrs. Martinez placed one hand over her chest, her expression shifting to amusement. “Well. That certainly explains things.”
Lucas slowly sank into the empty seat next to me, his face flushed red. “I swear i’m going to adopt that child when he grows up,” he muttered. “He’s going to be my PR manager.”
That broke the tension. Elijah, Martin, and I all burst out laughing. Even Mr. Martinez was chuckling.
“Congratulations,” I told Lucas and Martin softly once the laughter had died down. “Really. I’m so happy for you
The dinner officially began shortly after. More servers appeared with the first course, a delicate soup that was probably made by some famous chef whose name I couldn’t pronounce.
I was halfway through my soup when another hush swept through the room. People started standing, turning

toward the entrance, straightening their clothes and their smiles.
“That’ll be the governor,” Elijah muttered quietly.
Sure enough, the Governor of the state walked in with his wife and daughter. His wife was elegant, graceful, with dark hair swept up in an elaborate style. And their daughter, who looked to be in her mid-twenties, wore a dressed in dark green silk, looked around with mild curiosity, her very posture radiating privilege.
Mrs. Martinez immediately stood up. “Governor! Over here!”
Elijah leaned close to my ear. “Of course she’d make herself known.”
I had to bite my lip to keep from laughing.
The governor approached our table with a warm smile, extending his hand to Elijah first. “Mr. Martínez. Good to see you.”
“Governor,” Elijah replied with a professional handshake. “Thank you for coming.”
Then the governor turned to me, and his smile grew even warmer. “And Hannah! My wife and daughters haven’t stopped talking about you since we met at that charity auction last month.”
My eyes widened slightly. “That’s very flattering, sir. Thank you.”
He gestured to his wife, who immediately rushed over and embraced me like we were old friends. “Hannah! Look at you!” She stepped back to admire my dress. “Is this another piece from your collection?”
