The True Heiress Reborn And Slays (Alicia Delaney) novel Chapter 616

Chapter 616 A Dangerous Scene

“Besides, Riley’s hardly just sitting around with nothing to do. She’s running Harper Group-a major corporation–and handles more in a single day than the two of us combined. Once things settle down at the office, she’ll have plenty of time to think about everything else. It’s not like the Torres family grandchild is on some tight schedule.”

It was a clear gesture of respect toward Riley.

The other women around the table-whether born into the family or married into it-wore complicated looks.

Which of them hadn’t felt pressure from the family to have kids?

To secure their position and please the elders, having children was practically a top priority after marriage.

But that kind of pressure didn’t seem to exist for Riley.

What made it even harder to argue was that Harper Group was one of Nexopolis’ leading companies, comparable in scale and influence to Torres Group’s holdings.

Facing a sitting acting CEO with real authority, none of them could bring themselves to spout the usual tines about women staying home to take care of husband and kids.

With Miranda shielding her so firmly, Riley ended up enjoying the rest of the meal more comfortably than she’d expected. And the estate’s executive culinary team really was top-tier.

Once dinner was over, the birthday celebration began winding down. Guests started heading out in small groups.

Noticing Riley had eaten well, Miranda suggested with a smile, “Feeling a little full? Let’s take a walk in the back garden-help digest things a bit.”

Riley was happy to agree.

But just as they stood up, the head butler approached quickly and whispered something to Miranda.

Her expression shifted slightly. “What? He’s drunk?”

“Everything okay?” Riley asked, concerned.

Miranda didn’t take time to explain fully. She took Riley’s hand and walked briskly out of the room. “Wayne had too much to drink -let’s go check on him.”

They hurried toward one of the side lounges, where Sebastian was half-supporting, half-holding up his father.

Sebastian’s face was lightly flushed from drinking, but his eyes were clear and his steps steady-clearly still in control, keeping his promise to Riley.

Wayne, on the other hand, was in rough shape.

His tie was crooked, his steps unsteady, and he leaned heavily against his son, slurring words that didn’t quite string together- definitely wasted.

Miranda watched her husband being helped along, gestured to two attendants nearby, and said, “Take him back to his room Be careful with him.”

Yes, Mrs. Torres.”
