From the start, Teresa had never been friendly toward Riley, but she was still family-a Torres by blood. Riley couldn’t just ignore it if the woman was in real trouble.

“We should go check on her,” Riley said without a second thought.

Just as they were undoing their seatbelts, someone knocked on the driver’s side window. Riley lowered it to find an officer standing outside, gesturing firmly toward the “No Parking-Fire Lane” sign painted on the curb.
