The man wore a tailored sult and had sharp, handsome features, but his expression was stormy. His gaze swept back and forth between the two of them, clearly irritated, before finally landing on Claudia’s flushed cheeks.

Next to him stood a woman, visibly pregnant, clinging to his arm with an affectionate grip as she studied Claudia and her companion with undisguised curiosity.

Raymond caught the tension instantly. He raised a brow ever so slightly and glanced back at Claudia.

Her face, which had been bright red with embarrassment and frustration just moments earlier, had now gone completely pale.

Her eyes burned at the sight of the new arrivals.

Clearly, there was history here-something he hadn’t been briefed on.

Just my luck, Claudia thought bitterly, repeating the words in her head as if she could chew up and spit out the unwelcome couple standing before her.

Never in a million years did she expect that a simple visit to an elderly relative at the hospital would lead to running into her cheating ex-boyfriend and her former best friend.

Secretly, she blamed Raymond for this mess.

It had to be his bad karma rubbing off on her-why else would she stumble into this disaster?

If he hadn’t been making such a scene back in the hospital room, she would’ve been long gone by now and spared this unpleasant

run-in.

Just as Claudia’s mind wandered, Maeve Wilder-belly prominent-spoke up in a honeyed tone.

She nestled against his side, one hand resting gently over her rounded belly. Her smile appeared sweet and harmless, yet her eyes glinted with unspoken defiance.

“Claudia… is this your new guy? You move fast. Or did you know Cyrus and I had an appointment here today, so you dragged along some random guy just to mess with us?”

Before Claudia could even open her mouth to fire back, Raymond let out a low, amused laugh from beside her.

He straightened up lazily, his expression one of pure entertainment and sudden understanding.

With his sharp intuition, it only took him a few seconds to piece together the cliché soap opera unfolding in front of him.

Tsk. How painfully predictable.

He quirked a brow, looking past Claudia to Maeve-who clearly thought she was holding all the cards-and allowed a mocking smile to touch his lips. “Excuse me, ma’am, but who are you again? Are you really that important that we’d camp out here just for you?”

Maeve’s smug look vanished in an instant.

She hadn’t expected this man to be so blunt, and his presence was so unnerving she found herself momentarily speechless.

Falling back on habit, her eyes instantly welled up. She put on a wounded, fragile expression and melted into the man’s side as if seeking shelter.

Cyrus took the bait right away.

te wrapped a protective arm around Maeve and turned a stern face toward Claudia “Claudia, are you doing this on purpose? You (now Maeve’s pregnant-she doesn’t need this stress, physically or emotionally. What’s your problem?”

His twisted accusation made Claudia’s stomach turn.

Am I insane?” she shot back, voice rising. “Would I purposely hunt down two cheating lowlifes just to ruin my own day? Cyrus, did you get dropped on your head as a kid or something?”

Maeve paled at that but let out a delicate gasp, burying her face against Cyrus’ chest as tears began to streak down her cheeks.

Claudia, I know… what happened back then was our fault. But when you fall in love, you can’t control it… If you want to blame me or yell at me, I’ll accept it. But how could you… how could you say such awful things in front of my baby? Are you trying to curse my

hild? He hasn’t even been born yet!”

she cried beautifully, every word carefully crafted to paint herself as the devoted, victimized mother.

Claudia, who had been all claws and fire with Raymond earlier, now felt the old wounds-the betrayal, the hurt she’d tried so hard o bury-rush back with a vengeance.

she wanted to fight back, to rip that hypocritical mask right off Maeve’s face, but her throat felt stuffed with cotton. No words vould come out.
