Juno's voice was flat. "It's not a team-up. I just couldn't be bothered to handle something so trivial."
"Fine. But just so you know, I've already sent someone to take over LK. If you show a better attitude, I might give you some shares."
"Don't flatter yourself. I will always be the decision-maker."
With that, Juno hung up.
Margie: ?
Juno tossed her phone aside.
Recently, Northbridge University was hosting a music festival. Claire Ashworth, who was part of the External Relations Department, had been swamped.
She was barely around anymore.
The department was responsible for securing sponsorships for university events.
That day, as Juno walked past the Student Union office, she heard an argument inside. Claire was the one taking the heat.
She stopped in her tracks, lingering by the door to listen.
"I already said, this proposal is mine!" Claire's tone was fierce.
Then came Rhiannon Corrington's voice. "Are you accusing me of plagiarizing you?"
She scoffed. There wasn't an ounce of disdain in her tone, yet the contempt in her eyes was crystal clear. "The proposal lists Celadon Holdings as the sponsor. I usually keep a low profile and don't bring up my family background, but I have to say it now. I'm the only one here who has access to the CEO of Celadon. Do you?"
Claire's face went pale. She had taken a massive gamble by writing Celadon in her pitch.
Juno listened for another moment before walking away.
The department head tried to play peacemaker. "Let's just drop it. We'll hand the project over to Rhiannon."
Claire slammed her hands on the desk, furious. "I told you! I wrote this proposal!"
Someone else couldn't take it anymore. "I've seen Claire staying up late to figure out how to make this event better. It doesn't feel right for you to just hand it over with one sentence."
The head thought about it. "Alright, let's split into two teams. Rhiannon takes one, Claire takes the other. Whoever gets Celadon's sponsorship wins. The loser apologizes."
It wasn't fair in the slightest, but there was no other way.
Claire reluctantly agreed, her expression dark.
As soon as she got back, Juno looked up from the data on her tablet. "When are you heading to Celadon?"
Claire looked surprised. "How did you know?"
"Overheard it."
"Oh... I was planning to go tomorrow."
