Juno couldn't even stand up straight. Her face was a bit pale from the pain. She gave Claire a look of mock exasperation. "You can play the finals yourself. I'm dying over here."
Claire laughed despite herself. Only Juno could drop a line like that at a time like this.
After the initial spike of pain passed, Juno had retaliated fiercely. But because she had pushed herself so hard in the second half, the bone might have slipped out of alignment again.
After she changed clothes, she found Chuck waiting by the door.
"Let me take a look at your back."
Juno obediently turned around and lifted the edge of her shirt for him to see.
Chuck pressed his fingers against her spine. "It's misaligned. I'll pop it back into place."
"Yeah."
They used to do this all the time back in Blackwood City. It was entirely routine between them.
"Brace yourself."
"Okay."
Chuck gave it a sharp, calculated thrust.
Juno stumbled forward, her vision blacking out for a second as a sharp pain flared up. Her breathing grew heavy.
Chuck pulled her shirt back down and smoothed it out. "All done."
Juno gave him a thumbs up. "Not bad, Doc Yates. Good hands."
Chuck shot her a sidelong glance.
They couldn't stay together too long, especially with the Corringtons present today.
She changed completely and walked out.
The Corrington family was waiting outside.
When she emerged, she noticed Shane and his parents were also there. She gave them a fleeting glance before seamlessly averting her eyes.
Sebastian stepped forward and placed a hand on her lower back. Only after confirming nothing felt out of place did he withdraw his hand. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine."
