"If anyone's apologizing, it's your son apologizing to my brother. Don't you think?"
Damian's face turned ugly. He glared at Manny.
Juno glanced at the dean. "Can I take Babur and go now?"
Juno's intimidating aura had already thoroughly traumatized the man. The dean quickly waved his hands. "Yes, yes, of course. Thank you for making the trip down here."
Juno gave a polite nod, grabbed Babur by the collar, and dragged him out of the office.
The moment they stepped out, Chuck kicked Babur from behind.
Babur stumbled forward, catching his balance. He turned around, giving Chuck a bewildered look. Had he even done anything to offend the guy?
Chuck adjusted his cuffs, his tone infuriatingly calm. "I kicked you on your sister's behalf."
Juno's injuries hadn't fully healed yet; large movements still caused her pain. For the past half-month, Morgan had been the one doing the heavy lifting for her.
Since Morgan wasn't here today, Chuck gladly stepped in.
Juno crossed her arms. "You weren't in the wrong, so why didn't you open your mouth to defend yourself? Did you glue your lips shut?"
"I just didn't want to blow things out of proportion..." Babur muttered, his eyes darting toward Juno nervously. He lacked all confidence.
Juno hit the nail on the head. "You're just a coward."
Babur wanted to snap back, but he didn't even know what to say.
In a way, she was right. Not wanting to blow things out of proportion was just a convenient excuse.
He couldn't pull off Juno's effortless defiance.
"What are you so afraid of?"
Her tone was slightly softer this time, though still far from comforting.
"I don't know."
"Babur, I'm only cleaning up your mess this one time. Your life belongs to you, not me. If your first instinct when you run into trouble is to wait for someone else to step up for you, then you're an idiot."
Her words were harsh, but they were the absolute truth.
People walk all over those who let them.
The Corringtons raised their children to be polite and humble, but too much humility just bred cowardice.
