Juno's actions were smooth and fluid. She fought fire with fire, wrapping everything up beautifully in just half an hour.
While her bodyguards busied themselves with the cleanup, Juno casually asked Caleb, "Are you hungry?"
"Huh?" Caleb looked at her in confusion.
Next thing he knew, she had dragged him to a street food stall.
The night market was bustling, and the stalls were packed. Because the bruises on Caleb's face were so severe, they drew quite a few stares.
Juno sat there with one foot propped on an empty chair, sitting with an unapologetic, tough posture. There wasn't a trace of a refined heiress about her. She focused entirely on eating her skewers.
Even so, someone nearby managed to snap a photo of her.
For some reason, Caleb felt irrationally guilty. Since Juno wasn't speaking, he kept feeling the urge to explain himself.
He opened his mouth several times but didn't know what to say. A deep sense of defeat washed over him.
Juno tossed her skewer onto the table. "Figured it out yet?"
Caleb knew exactly what she meant and nodded solemnly. "I have. I promise I won't act so recklessly again."
He had known he was no match for them but still couldn't control himself. If it weren't for Juno, he probably would have been beaten to death today.
Juno narrowed her eyes, her voice steady. "I want to know, between your life and your pride, which is more important?"
"My life."
"Then why didn't you run instead of trying to fight them?"
Juno looked at him as if looking at an immature child.
Caleb felt a bit dazed. The person sitting in front of him was his sister, but why did it feel like her very soul had been swapped out? They hadn't seen each other in just a few days, yet her transformation was radical.
When the silence grew too awkward, Caleb reached for a cigarette. He had barely pulled it out when Juno snatched it away.
She pinched the cigarette between her fingers. "Drop this habit."
With that, she tossed it into the trash can, then continued, "I heard you're interested in business management. Do you know anything about the jewelry industry?"
At the mention of this, Caleb's eyes lit up. "I do!"
"I'll introduce you to a teacher. Follow him and learn the ropes for a few days. After a while, I'll give you a place for some hands-on practice."
Caleb forced down his surging excitement, trying to look composed. "What do you mean?"
Juno didn't elaborate. "Exactly what it sounds like. Go to the hospital and get checked out, then someone will take you to a hotel."
...
Juno had left around noon and didn't return all afternoon. Gwendolyn had been sitting in the living room for hours, constantly glancing toward the door.
She had acted too hastily earlier, making accusations before she even understood the situation.
The more she thought about it, the more regret and guilt she felt.
Rhiannon came out of her room. Her vocal cords were strained, making her voice a bit raspy. "Mom... a friend of mine took a picture of Juno."
