In the executive conference room, aside from the man sitting at the head of the table, everyone's phone was on airplane mode or turned off.
So when a faint vibrating sound echoed through the room, everyone looked around for the source.
Alistair's phone was placed face down on the conference table.
When the phone rang, his calm gaze drifted to the device first, but he didn't move.
Ken Linden, standing to the side, noticed it too. He glanced at the phone, then at Alistair.
Although Mr. Zucker kept his phone on during meetings, very few people actually called him directly.
First, everyone around him knew that if they had official business or partnership inquiries, they were supposed to go through his assistant. No one would dare interrupt him so presumptuously.
Another reason was that very few people actually knew his private number. If someone called him directly, it was assumed to be an incredibly urgent matter.
The last time a call came straight through to Mr. Zucker's private number, it was because a major foreign VIP had an issue at the border and needed Alistair's immediate assistance and clearance documents.
Ken had no idea what this call could be about.
—He had been rushed off his feet lately and truly hadn't heard of any major crises involving important figures.
In the conference room, every executive's eyes were fixed on the unexpectedly ringing phone.
Alistair didn't say a word. He just picked up the phone.
Upon seeing the caller ID, he paused for a brief second before answering the call.
He brought the phone to his ear.
"Hello? Uncle Alistair?"
On the other end of the line, the young woman's voice was soft, calling him tentatively.
Alistair lowered his eyes. Holding the phone in his left hand, he picked up a fountain pen with his right and began writing something on a piece of paper.
