The Platonic Trap novel Chapter 159

The moment Alistair realized this, he also realized just how dangerously close he was to her.

The girl merely kept her head down, letting her long hair veil her face, refusing to look up.

Pressing his lips together, Alistair slightly lifted his chin, his expression cold and his gaze intense.

"My grandfather would blame you."

Her head still bowed, she offered that single defense.

Alistair frowned slightly. "What?"

Celia kept her voice low, murmuring softly, "My grandfather really likes Talbot. If you sabotage this, and he finds out... he'll blame you."

A deep, muffled chuckle rumbled from the man above her.

She could feel the powerful vibration radiating from his chest.

His voice was dark and intoxicatingly rich. "Celia, do you honestly believe Sheridan would dare blame me for the sake of Talbot Forrester?"

He said it so casually.

Like he was discussing the weather.

But Alistair always possessed the kind of absolute power and authority that allowed him to make statements like that.

Biting her lip, Celia played the timid victim. "But Talbot will complain to my grandfather."

"Stop changing the subject," Alistair commanded in a low voice, staring intently down at her. "I am asking you—are you willing to throw everything away just to be with him?"

But before she could even form a reply, he continued, his tone absolute.

"I will not allow it."

A flicker of shock crossed Celia's eyes as she snapped her head up, her watery gaze locking onto his.

She looked utterly lost and overwhelmed.

"I gave my word to your father," Alistair said with terrifying calm. "Talbot is beneath you. Therefore, I will not allow this marriage to happen."

*But you were the one who told me to carefully reconsider my marriage to him before,* she thought wildly.
