The Platonic Trap novel Chapter 158

Celia frowned slightly.

"My dad said we're getting engaged in half a month."

Silence.

The interior of the car plunged into absolute, deafening silence.

Celia could hear the sound of her own breathing.

The man sitting beside her was like a flawless marble statue, his legs crossed, not uttering a single syllable.

She was absolutely certain he had heard what Talbot said.

But he remained silent, staring straight ahead.

Without her noticing, the privacy partition between the front and rear seats had silently rolled up.

The backseat was now a completely sealed, intimate space.

Celia was still marveling at the bizarre mental gymnastics Talbot must be doing to suggest this, completely oblivious to the rising partition and the dangerously shifting atmosphere.

"What did you... say?"

Assuming she had misheard, Celia asked again.

"Celia, you're really enjoying this, aren't you?" Talbot's voice was raspy, laced with undisguised rage. "You finally got what you wanted. You must be so proud of yourself."

"I said, in half a month, we are getting engaged."

Disgust flared in Celia's eyes, but she scrambled to paste a look of panicked confusion onto her face. "T-Talbot, isn't this a bit too sudden?"

"Isn't this exactly what you wanted? The Forrester Group's financial crisis is solved, and you get what you've been scheming for. What more could you possibly want?"

"Cut the act, Celia. You went crying to Alistair Zucker just for me, didn't you?"

Beside her, the man in question maintained his cold, aloof expression, his gaze unwavering.

Celia opened her mouth, her mind fracturing into two entirely different personalities.

Half of her wanted to scream every curse word she knew at Talbot, while the other half knew she had to remain a docile, innocent lamb in front of Alistair.

She was getting incredibly tired of this.

"Talbot, can we talk about this later? Right now, I'm..." Celia shot a quick glance at the imposing man beside her. "... it's not a good time."
