"You are incredibly smart, Ms. Stafford. If the timing weren't so terribly inconvenient, I would love to sit down and have coffee with you."
Charles paused, his smile twisting into something grotesque and unhinged. "But what a pity... we're out of time."
Celia remained entirely composed, not a muscle twitching. "What exactly is your plan, Charles?"
She was putting the pieces together. If he had tracked her down via the custom flowers Alistair ordered, this man had to be Alistair's enemy. Or worse... his prey.
As she had mused earlier, Alistair wasn't the type to send women flowers. To a man like Charles, that delivery made her look like the billionaire's ultimate weakness.
So what was his endgame?
"Have you seen my car?"
Charles stared at his battered vehicle with sickening infatuation. "That's an old friend of mine. I've been dying to race someone who actually has skill."
"Will you be my opponent, Ms. Stafford?" He turned his feverish, obsessive gaze back to her.
"How about we play a game?" Charles laughed softly. "Beat me. Because if you don't, the payload of C4 wired to my engine is enough to vaporize everyone at this track."
A violent chill started at the base of Celia's spine, spider-webbing all the way to her fingertips.
She stared at this sickly, seemingly harmless man, and suddenly, a terrifying memory slammed into her mind, perfectly overlapping with the face in front of her—
The dream!
She had seen him in her nightmare!
In her visions, the news had reported a catastrophic terrorist bombing in the Capital. Although the tactical units had mobilized quickly, the explosion had still caused massive casualties and widespread panic.
In that dream, she had seen the terrorist's face.
It was Charles!
Her mind raced at lightspeed. When she focused back on him, her expression was cool, her voice deadpan. "Why me?"
